PART – B (𝟔𝟓Marks)
11. A)The speed of a10 hp, 230V, 1200 rpm separately excited dc motor is controlled by a
single phase full converter. The rated motor armature current is 38A and the armature
resistance is 0.3Ω.The ac supply voltage is 260V.The motor voltage constant is Ka Φ
=0.182V/rpm. Assume that sufficient inductance is present in the armature circuit to
make the motor current continuous and ripple free?(13)

(Or)

B)A 220V, 1500 rpm 50A separately excited motor with armature resistance of 0.5 ohms
is fed from three phase fully controlled rectifier with a line voltage of 440V, 50Hz. A
Star-Delta connected transformer is used to feed the armature so that motor terminal
voltage equals rated voltage when converter firing angle is zero. (a) Calculate transformer
turns ratio. (b) Determine the value of firing angle when motor is running at 1200 rpm
and rated torque. (c) Determine the value of firing angle when motor is running at -800
rpm and twice the rated torque. (13)
12. A)Draw and explain the operation of Dual- Converter in circulating and .Non-circulating
current control methods? (13)
(Or)
B)Describe the working of multi quadrant dc drives? A DC chopper is used to control the
speed of a separately-excited DC motor. The DC supply voltage is 220 V, armature
resistance Ra =0.2Ω and motor constant Ka×ϕ=0.08 V/rpm. This motor drives a constant
torque load requiring an average armature current of 25A. Determine (a) the range of
speed control (b) the range of duty cycle D. Assumed the motor current to be continuous.

13. A)Explain six step inverter voltage control of induction motor? (13)
(Or)
B)Explain the principle of operation of pwm inverter with dynamic braking induction
motor(13)
14. A)With diagram explain the 4 modes of operation of static scherbius drives? (13)
(Or)
B)Explain the principle of operation of modified Kramer drive? (13)
15. A)Explain direct and indirect vector control in detail? (13)
(Or)
B)Explain in detail to obtain the power factor control and v curve of synchronous motor
drives? (13)
PART – C (1𝟓Marks)

16. A)With practical example explain breaking of synchronous motor drive and obtain
performance equations of operation from a voltage source (15)
(Or)
