FINAL TERM EXAM

ENGLISH FOR SCIENCE CLASSROOM – PIA 6216

Assalamualaikum wr wb. Good morning everybody? How are you today? I am fine
too, thank you. Anyone absent today ? No? Okay. Before we start our discussion today, let’s
pray together. Pray begin, finish. Ok before we get into the lesson about human digestion
system, let me introduce my self. My name is Dinda Restu Nabila, you can call me Dinda.
My student’s number ID is 17312244027. I am studying as third year student in Faculty of
Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Study Program of Natural Science Education, Yogyakarta
State University.

Do you still remember your lesson last meeting? Ajeng, can you communicate in our
class now? Yes, good answer Ajeng. Last meeting, we discuss about human blood
circulation. The circulatory system is made up of blood vessels that carry blood away from
and towards the heart. Arteries carry blood away from the heart and veins carry blood back to
the heart.

Today we will discuss about human digestion system. The objectives of this lesson
are student can know definition of the human digestion system and student can know organs
of human digestion system. Does anyone know about human digestion system? No body?
Okay I will explain to you about human digestion system.

The digestive system is a group of organs that working together to convert food into
energy and basic nutrients to feed the entire body.

There are 8 organs of human digestion system

1. Mouth

The mouth is chewing breaks the food into pieces that are more easily digested, while
saliva mixes with food to begin the process of breaking it down into a form your body can
absorb and use.

2. Pharynx
The pharynx is a funnel-shaped tube connected to the posterior end of the mouth. The
pharynx is responsible for the passing of masses of chewed food from the mouth to the
esophagus.

3. Esophagus

Esophagus located in your throat near your trachea .The esophagus receives food
from your mouth when you swallow. By means of a series of muscular contractions called
peristalsis, the esophagus delivers food to your stomach.

4. Stomach

The stomach is a muscular sac that is located on the left side of the abdominal cavity.
This major organ acts as a storage tank for food so that the body has time to digest large
meals properly. The stomach also contains hydrochloric acid and digestive enzymes that
continue the digestion of food that began in the mouth.

5. Small intestine

The small intestine has three segments. There are duodenum where further breakdown
of the food takes place, and The next two parts are jejunum and ileum that mostly responsible
for the absorption of nutrients from the processed food into the bloodstream through the walls
of the intestine. Small intestine is the longest of digestive system because lots of digestion.

6. Large intestine

The large intestine absorbs water and contains many symbiotic bacteria that aid in the
breaking down of wastes to extract some small amounts of nutrients. Feces in the large
intestine exit the body through the anal canal.

7. Rectum

When anything comes into the rectum, sensors send a message to the brain. The brain
then decides if the rectal contents can be released or not. If they can, the sphincters relax and
the rectum contracts, disposing its contents. If the contents cannot be disposed, the sphincter
contracts and the rectum accommodates so that the sensation temporarily goes away.

8. Anus

The anus is the last part of the digestive tract. The lining of the upper anus is
specialized to detect rectal contents. It lets you know whether the contents are liquid, gas, or
solid. The anus is surrounded by sphincter muscles that are important in allowing control of
stool. The pelvic floor muscle creates an angle between the rectum and the anus that stops
stool from coming out when it is not supposed to. The internal sphincter keeps us continent
when we are asleep or otherwise unaware of the presence of stool. When we get an urge to go
to the bathroom, we rely on our external sphincter to hold the stool until reaching a toilet,
where it then relaxes to release the contents.

Before we finished our class, I have questions for you. Please close your note book
and put your hands up if you know the answer.

Does anyone know about the digestive system? Yes you are right Rina. The digestive system
is a group of organs that working together to convert food into energy and basic nutrients to
feed the entire body. Very good Rina. Please give applause to Rina.

Mention the organs of the digestion system in human from beginning to end ! Yes, the best
answer from Sandra. The organs of the digestion system in human there are mouth, pharynx,
esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum and anus. Very good Sandra.
Please give applause to Sandra.

Ok class, before I am finished this class, I will give you conclusion. The digestive
system is a group of organs that working together to convert food into energy and basic
nutrients to feed the entire body. The organs of the digestion system in human there are
mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum and anus. The
mouth is chewing breaks the food into pieces that are more easily digested. The pharynx is a

body has time to digest large meals properly. Small intestine is the longest of digestive
system because lots of digestion. The large intestine absorbs water and contains many
symbiotic bacteria that aid in the breaking down of wastes to extract some small amounts of
nutrients. The rectum's job to receive stool from the colon, to let the person know that there is
stool to be evacuated, and to hold the stool until evacuation happens. The anus is the last part
of the digestive tract.

The last our class, any question for me? Not yet? Ok gais. For the next meeting, we
will discuss about three classes of lever. I think is enough, I do apologize for my mistake.
Thank you for your attention. See you...
