ARTICULATED TRUCK
An articulated hauler, articulated dump truck (ADT), or
sometimes a dump hauler, is a very large heavy duty type
of dump truck used to transport loads over rough terrain,
and occasionally public roads.

BACKHOE LOADERS
Backhoe loaders are the staple of small earthmoving
fleets, with a front bucket that allows them to work as
wheel loaders, and with an excavator-style digging
mechanism at the back for trenching to depths of 14 feet
or more. Backhoes also can be equipped with a front or
rear-mounted coupler that allows attachment use.

COMPACT TRACK LOADERS

Compact track loaders are essentially skid steer loaders
with high-flotation rubber tracks, allowing these versatile
machines to work in poor underfoot conditions and on
sensitive surfaces. Like the skid steer, mini track loader
has auxiliary hydraulics for powering attachments, and its
flat-footed nature suits it well for grading, sometimes with
a laser-based grade-control system.

CRAWLER DOZERS
Crawler dozers are powerful tracked machines that use a
variety of front mounted blades to move material. Large
dozers often do pioneering work, such as moving dirt in
preparation for new roadways or removing overburden in
mining applications. Smaller machines often are used as
grading tractors, sometimes using automated grade
controls to precisely establish complex contours.
CRAWLER EXCAVATORS
A Crawler Excavator are utilitarian machines that can dig
trenches, load trucks, lift pipe, and handle attachments,
such as hydraulic breakers, shears, and grapples. These
machines range in size from the "mini" that fits through a
back-yard gate, to those in mining applications and have
operating weights of a quarter million pounds or more.

CRAWLER LOADERS
Crawler Loaders are track propelled units that typically
feature a front loader bucket. These pieces of heavy
equipment offer the power and stability of a Crawler
Dozer, while still providing the lifting and loading
capabilities of a Wheel Loader.

CRAWLER TRACTORS
Power and innovative technology are the hallmarks of
Liebherr crawler tractors. Whether for heavy ripping work,
moving material or fine-grading, crawler dozers from
Liebherr are powerful machines for every application.

LANDFILL COMPACTORS

Waste compaction is the process of compacting waste,

reducing it in size. Garbage compactors and waste
collection vehicles compress waste so that more of it can
be stored in the same space. Waste is compacted again,
more thoroughly, at the landfill to conserve valuable
airspace and to extend the landfill's life span.
MOTOR GRADERS
A grader, also commonly referred to as a road grader or a
motor grader, is a construction machine with a long blade
used to create a flat surface during the grading process.

RIGID FRAME TRUCKS

Rigid-frame rear-dump trucks are suitable for use in
hauling many types of materials (Figure 10.3). The shape
of the cargo body, such as the extent of sharp angles and
corners, and the contour of the rear, through which the
materials must flow during dumping, will affect the ease
or difficulty of loading and dumping. The cargo body of
trucks used to haul wet clay and similar materials should
be free of sharp angles and corners. Dry sand and gravel
will flow easily from almost any shaped cargo body. When
hauling rock, the impact of loading on the cargo body is
extremely severe

SCRAPERS, PULL TYPE

In civil engineering, a wheel tractor-scraper is a piece of
heavy equipment used for earthmoving. The rear part of
the scraper has a vertically moveable hopper with a sharp
horizontal front edge which can be raised or lowered

SHEEPSFOOT ROLLERS
(OR PADFOOT ROLLERS)
Sheepsfoot rollers are used for compacting fine grained
soils such as heavy clays and silty clays. Sheepsfoot rollers
are used for compaction of soils in dams, embankments,
subgrade layers in pavements and rail road construction
projects. Sheepsfoot rollers are of static and vibratory
types.

SKID STEER LOADERS

Skid steer loaders, the "Swiss Army Knives" of machines,
use a wide range of mechanical and hydraulically powered
attachments to accomplish varied tasks. Skid loaders,
having sophisticated auxiliary hydraulic systems, are
compact, highly maneuverable, and range in rated
operating capacity (the weight that can be safely lifted and
transported) from 500 to more than 4,000 pounds.

SURFACE DRILLS
Surface down-the-hole (DTH) drills offer the highest
mobility, a smaller footprint and the ability to serve
multiple sites. Equipped with powerful down-the-hole
hammers, Down The Hole Rigs are designed for high-
capacity rock drilling in quarries, opencast mines and rock
excavation projects.

WHEEL DOZER
Wheel Dozers. Wheel Dozers are specifically designed for
mobility, maneuverability and good speed. Wheel dozers
can travel at speeds of up to three times faster than track-
type tractors.
WHEEL LOADERS
Wheel loaders are versatile mobile shovels that transfer
material from stockpiles to trucks, or transport material
around job sites. Bucket sizes range from perhaps 1 cubic
yard for small utility machines, to 20 cubic yards or more
for large models in mining applications. Small and mid-
sized wheel loaders frequently have an attachment
coupler that allows them to use work tools such as forks,
brooms, and lifting jibs.
