Question:- The water is flowing through a pipe having diameters, 20 cm and 10 cm at the
sections 1 and 2 respectively.The rate of flow through pipe is 35 liters/s.The section 1 is 6 m
above datum and section 2 is 4 m above datum . If the preasure at section 1 is 39.24 N/cm2 .
Find the intesity of preasure at section 2 .
Solution.
Given:
At section 1, D1 = 20 cm = 0.2 m
π π
A1 = 4 D1 2 = 4 (0.2)2 = 0.0314 𝑚2
P1 = 39.24 N/cm2
z1 = 6.0 m
At section 2, D2 = 10 cm = 0.1 m
π π
A2 = 4 D2 2 = 4 (0.1)2 = 0.00785 𝑚2
z2 = 4.0 m
P2 = ?
35
Rate of flow , Q = 35 liters/s = 1000 = 0.035 𝑚3 ∕ 𝑠
Q 0.035
V1 = = = 1.114 𝑚/𝑠.
𝐴1 0.0314
Q 0.035
V2 = = = 4.456 𝑚/𝑠.
A2 0.00785
and
Applying Bernoulli's equation at sections 1 and 2, We get
𝑃1 𝑉12 𝑃2 𝑉22
+ + 𝑧1 = + + 𝑧2
𝜌𝑔 2𝑔 𝜌𝑔 2𝑔
𝑃2
40 + 0.063 + 6.0 = + 1.012 + 4.0

𝑃2
46.063 = + 5.012
9810
𝑃2
= 46.063 − 5.012 = 41.051

41.051 ×9810 𝑁⁄ 𝑁
= 104 𝑐𝑚2 = 40.27 ⁄𝑐𝑚2. Ans.
