Inspection Type: Recommendation Details

FINDINGS :
Due to difficulty experienced with severe coking of the line as well as quality issues of field
welds, it had been decided to replace the entire line. An MOC also is in progress to introduce
additional sets of flanges to facilitate easy removal for cleaning.

RECOMMENDATIONS :

Replacement of the 5 Cr 1/2 Mo transfer line from Heater H-201 to Soaker V-202 (drawings 3"-HR-207-
3E1B sheet no 10 & 16) during integration T&I 2014

1. Use TIG welding process completely

2. Qualified & certified Welders shall be used. If necessary, welders will be tested.
3. All weld joint shall be numbered and the welder number shall be marked against each joint.
4. Welding procedure to be used: Saipem 561-AS19
5. Preheating and inter-pass temperature mandatory. Recommended to complete a joint once started
and avoid stopping work mid-way on a joint.
6. After completion of welding, joint shall be cooled slowly by wrapping the joint with ceramic fiber
blankets.
7. PWHT is required for ALL welds.
8. Hardness shall be checked on all joints, max hardness after PWHT: 240 BHN
9. 100% visual inspection, 100% Radiography required on all joints after PWHT. Additional PT inspection
at the discretion of inspector.
10. 10% Radiography shall be taken prior to PWHT. Based on the performance on initial weld joints of a
welder, Inspection may waive this requirement.
11. Re-radiography of repair joints shall be to the contractor’s account. If repairs found on Radiographs
before PWHT, additional penalty joints shall be radiographed at contractor’s cost.
12. Final hydrotest shall be carried out at 21 barg.
