Teacher Quality Standards self-evaluation

For Quality Standard 1,

Element A, as it stands right now I would most likely be stopped at one. Due to the fact that
none of my teachers write out their teaching plans. Other than days that I write out a full lesson
plan there is no “proof” with out talking to the evaluator of what standards are being taught even
though a number of them are present in each class. The standards are never told to the any of the
levels. So, if they did not have a lesson plan or know the art room they could not know clear
what standards is being used at any given day. Especially in the TAB setting where if you look
you could see all standards being show each day however, it is hard to write out and explain if
there is no opportunity to do so.

Element B, is a difficult area because I have show every single point of element B but it may no
be everyday or very clearly being implemented. It is also not clear how much it shows effect the
lesson. For literacy would it count if the instruction is written and they have to read to follow
instruction or does writing and communicating have to play a big part. The same with math,
drawing a human form has a lot of proportional math but it may not show as multiplication or
finding degrees. With out clear outlines I am not sure where I fall and the way I am evaluated
will change with the interpretation of the evaluator.

Element C, I would like to say I fall around 6-7. I try with every student whether it is to the
whole class or individually to show many ways to create an art work. I word methods in different
ways and try to give as many examples as possible with resources. My time in Japan made me
realize the power of saying the same thing in many different ways to help with understanding.

For Quality Standard 2,

Element A, I want to say I am able to reach 11 however I lack the experience to know whether
the classroom environment I make is truly safety and helping cultivate good behaviors. I am also
using a barrowed classroom, so the environment is not mine alone. I have been able to make
great relationships with students and I respect my schools’ rules as well as each one of my
students.

Element B, I feel I am around 4 as I love and apricate all races and backgrounds but, I still lack
the life experience with many backgrounds and cultures. I always am open about my cultural
interest and hope of students looking into new cultures and languages. When it comes to going
past my own culture and Japanese culture I am worried about how I should go about it and what
I should use as it can be a sticky situation. But I don’t what it to hold back students from learning
not only about the world but their classmates’ cultures and backgrounds.
Element C, for C I feel that I am anywhere from 8-12. I am big on going to each student
individually and doing my best to give information in the best way for them as an individual.
Whether it is giving them more visual examples for tying in their personal interest into a project.
I try to give opportunities for students to reflect in the process and at the end of a project. It is
hard to evaluate how it has impacted the students and if my efforts have been effective due to my
lack of experience.

Element D, so far, I would say 1 as I have had practically no contact with adults/parents as a
student teacher. I would like to cultivate an art community in the future. It also seems difficult to
see this in a classroom if the evaluator just sets in during one class.

For Quality Standard 3,

Element A, I would be graded a 1 because I have not the teacher network to work with other
teachers outside my host and believe it would be hard to grade part 2. I feel I have at least
touched on all of the other points of this element.

Element B, I would say currently I am a 6. I am very flexible with the way I teach based on
student understanding. When I notice a part of a lesson or idea is not getting across I go back and
redo the teaching method to adjust to the students. That can be more and different ways of
explaining or diving deeper into the content.

Element C, I feel how I was in high verse middle/elementary differ on this element. In high
school we had a lot of technology to use depending on the day I would rate 6-12. Middle school
would be a 1-4 and elementary a 1-2. Having technology is school help vastly with the resources
available to students. Comparing I am held back by the lack in technology in my second
placement and am having to re train ways of using the classroom nd give resources of current
information to students.

Element D, I feel most days have been a 1, others as high as a 4. I am finding it hard to push
student towards higher thinking. Many take the hard way out and use the easiest methods. It’s a
hard balance of pushing before the may just give up. I want to guide student more effectively to
try harder and more changing art projects.

Element E, I believe I am still at a 1. I need to work on stronger teamwork options. I feel my

teachers have either loved group work or have not allowed it. The students love group work
however, without proper guidelines it seems to be ineffective for their education. I also have
personal not liked group work and that is most likely getting in my way of growing.

Element F, in the TAB classroom element f is the strongest usually around 9. Most of my time
in teacher directed classroom there is little art about art. In the TAB classroom students are
genuinely exploring and talking about it with their classmates. Most likely in part to the fact hat
they are not all doing the same activity. In the teacher directed student would talk to each other
however, it was all about personal interest outside of the classroom.

For Quality Standard 4,

Element A, with account to lack of experience with point 1 and 2 I should be around 8. I have
little to no contact with other staff aside from hall way greeting and when they bring their
students. However, 3-8 I believe I clearly teach with.

Element B, I would be a 1 as I am familiar with the Colorado standards, but I lack knowledge of
my host schools and disrupt goal. I have only brief knowledge of them.

Element C, in the high school I feel it would be higher but right now it would be a 1. Staff are
friendly, but communication is lacking in the elementary. Many day we don’t know if we have
student in some grades or not.

Element D, element d would be a 1-2. In the middle/elementary there is far less meetings then in
high school which has meetings and committees every day of the week. We did help with props
for the 2nd grade show and there was the art walk show. I personally have had little opportunities
to interact farther with the school in a leadership way. In the future I would love to lead clubs
and art based events.
