Abstract— This paper focus on a smart irrigation system sensors are present in every direction at a constant distant
which is cost effective and a middle class farmer use it in farm from each other so that the field can be covered using
field. Today we are living in 21st century where automation is minimum number of sensors. The soil moisture in each
playing important role in human life. Automation allows us to direction of field is sensed by sensor node and the sensed

comfort but also reduce energy, efficiency and time saving.
data is sent to microcontroller node through wireless
The irrigation system designed in this paper is not only networking device. On receiving sensor value the
efficient but cost effective for the Indian farmer. The controller node checks it with required soil moisture
objective of this paper is to control the flow and the value. When soil moisture in a particular field is not up to
direction of water flow with the help of soil moisture required level then controller node switch on the motor to
sensors. This data is further passed on to the mobile and irrigate associated field and the RASPBERRY-Pi process

1. INTRODUCTION
This paper intends to address one common problems faced
( ) ( )
by a farmer i.e. switching the motor used in their fields on ( ) { 
and off manually. Generally farmers visit their agriculture ( ) ( )
fields periodically to check soil moisture level and based
on requirement water is pumped by motors to irrigate Where and are the energy dissipated in
respective fields. Farmer need to wait for certain period transmitting and receiving the data bit respectively. If the
sensor and receiver is less than then free space
before switching off motor so that water is allowed to
channel model is used. Otherwise multi path fading
flow in sufficient quantity in respective fields. This
channel model is used. The energy consumed in receiving
irrigation method takes lot of time and effort particularly
the - bit data is given by
when a farmer need to irrigate multiple agriculture fields
distributed in different geographical areas. Traditionally () (2)
farmers will present in their fields to do irrigation process.
Automation in irrigation system makes farmer work much
easier. Sensor based automated irrigation system provides
promising solution to farmers where presence of farmer in
field is not compulsory. A small processor programmed
for control an electromagnetic valve and also compare to
electromagnetic valve operates motor to start watering.
Really INDIAN farmers need cheap and simple user
interface for controlling sensor based automated irrigation
system. Now a day's internet is widely used. Using
internet farmer know about the agriculture field irrigation
status. This helps farmers to know the status of farm field
watering direction through a message whether the farmer
is far away from field know the status of water motor is
ON or OFF and direction of watering.

A. Working of Prototype
In this paper we present a prototype for fully automation
accessing of irrigation motor where Prototype includes he routing nodes are used to provide shortest path
possible to each sensor connected to them. The Local
number of sensor node placed in different directions of Shortest Path Algorithm ensures the minimum time
farm field. Each Sensor is integrated with a wireless possible for the message to reach the microprocessor from
networking device and the data received by the the soil moisture sensor. 

B. Relevance to Minor Project
A few lines about how the paper referred to, relates to
your minor project should be mentioned. Reiterating that
students need to refer only IEEE journals/conferences
papers [6,7]. Combine and present your report in form of a
SURVEY paper after reading at least two papers. Your
respective MENTORS will help you in identifying the
papers and formulating the report.

C. Conclusions
In the present era, the farmers use irrigation technique
through the manual control, in which the farmers irrigate
the land at regular intervals .This process seems to
consume more water and results in water wastage.
3. OBSERVATIONS Moreover in dry areas where there is inadequate rainfall,
irrigation becomes difficult. Hence we require an
A. Figured and Table automatic system that will precisely monitor and control
the water requirements in the field. Installing Smart
irrigation system saves time and ensures judicious usage
of water. Moreover this architecture uses microcontroller
which promises an increase in system life by reducing
power consumption.
