why the rise of technology is an issue with many implications for young people?

New technological advances are coming up day by day and human beings all around the world
approach technology easily. New electronical devices are invented so that people might have access
to information and media wherever they are. This increasing phenomenon leads individuals to
depend on their devices in order to live and to contact their family and friends; 92% of teenagers
have admitted going online daily using their laptops, tablets and smartphones. (Lenhart, 2015)
During this time they usually access social media, play videogames or watch videos. Since it is easier
for them to find information and friends online, teenagers get accustomed to technology as part of
their daily activities. This technological routine may lead to physical and psychological cons

One may think technology would only affect people's minds, as it is only a matter of mental work,
but it also alters people physically. For instance, late night's chatting or watching videos produces
sleep disorders, such as insomnias or parasomnias. (Medicine, 2017) (Parasomnias may include
abnormal movements, behaviors, emotions, perceptions or dreams) Items such as Tv sets or
smartphones may affect negatively the way teenagers sleep. (Roberts, 2017)Since they do not sleep
well, teenagers are not able to deal with their everyday tasks.

Another physical aftermath of the rising technology and its use in daily activities is sight loss. People
spend long periods of time a day watching their cellphone and computer´s screens; hence, their
sight becomes weaker, it may also damage the retina (Thorpe, 2015) so it is difficult to recognize
several objects which were clear before using electronical devices for such long periods of time.

In addition, screen time increases obesity risk. Screen time causes a sedentary conduct in which
individuals spend their time sitting on a chair or on the bed, scrolling on Facebook or playing
videogames. Those activities do not need either physical activity, or any sort of exercise;
consequently, teenagers become obese as they do not practice any sport. This lack of physical
activity is known as one of the main causes of heart disease and chronical health conditions.
(Roberts, 2017)

Still the rise of technology causes several physical complications, there is also a
variety of physiological consequences due to the fact that new technological tools
have become more affordable recently.
The first physiological consequence of the new technologies’ use is the increase of
shyness. Many teenagers consider internet and videogames their alternative to normal
life. Internet is open for everybody, it is easy to make new friends and interaction
requires less exposure from themselves; therefore, shy teenagers may find (in
technology) an environment in which they will not need to develop social skills. It
affects their communicative capabilities and increases their introverted behavior. (ref
book)
Recent researches have shown that teenagers may become obsessed with playing videogames
causing social, academic and emotional problems (Roberts, 2017)(Rallings, 2015) As teenagers
spend more time on internet rather than other activities, they get depressed easily. This lack in
social behavior is the result of spending time using electronical devices rather than doing
outdoor activities.

A major psychological consequence is the damage technology causes on people´s

relationships. For instance, teenagers influenced by online pornography tend to
consider sexual behavior differently. They expect their sexual relations to be as
they watch on videos, when those expectations are not achieved, they get
disappointed and go back to internet to find what they cannot live in real life
experiences.

To conclude, technological advances such as new smartphones and social

networking trigger many implications for people. Young people are the most
affected population for they are used to deal with technology and they commonly
use it for playing, doing homework or watching videos. The psychical and
psychological aftermaths caused by the rise of technology must be considered.

why the rise of technology is an issue with many implications for young people?

usually access social media, play videogames or watch videos. Since it is easier for
them to find information and friends online, teenagers are likely to use technology as
part of their daily activities. This technology-spending routine may lead to physical
and psychological consequences.
One may think technology would only affect people's minds, as it is only a matter of
mental work, but it also alters people physically. For instance, late night's chatting or
watching videos produces sleep disorders, such as insomnias or parasomnias.
(Medicine, 2017) (Parasomnias may include abnormal movements, behaviors,
emotions, perceptions or dreams) Items such as TV sets or smartphones may perturb
the way young people sleep because sounds and led lights contribute to uncomfortable
sleeping time. Since they do not sleep well, teenagers are not able to deal with their
everyday tasks, and they generally feel weak throughout the day. This issue may
gradually increase and may affect, not only teen’s development at school but also their
general daily activities.
Another physical aftermath of the rising technological devices and its use in daily life
is sight loss. People spend long periods of time a day watching their cellphone and
computer´s screens; hence, their sight becomes weaker, it may also damage the retina
(Thorpe, 2015) So, it is difficult to recognize several objects which were clear before
using electronical devices for such long periods of time. Doctors from Barnet Dulaney
Perkins Eye Center claim that the consequences of long hours in front of screens vary
from double vision to cataracts. This shows how important it is to reduce the time
spent in using laptops and phones.
In addition, screen time increases obesity risk. Screen time causes a sedentary conduct
in which individuals spend their time sitting on a chair or on the bed, scrolling down
on Facebook or playing videogames. Those activities do not need either physical
activity or any sort of exercise; consequently, teenagers become obese as they do not
practice any sport. This lack of physical activity is known as one of the main causes
of heart disease and chronical health conditions. (Roberts, 2017)
Still the rise of technology causes several physical complications, there is also a
variety of physiological consequences in people, especially the young ones. New
technological tools have become more affordable recently and many teenagers are
used to using them every day without considering their implications.
The first physiological consequence of the new technologies’ use is the growth of
shyness as many teenagers consider the internet and videogames their alternative to
normal life. Internet is open for everyone, it is easy to make new friends and
interaction requires less exposure from themselves; therefore, shy teenagers may find
(in technology) an environment in which they will not need to develop social skills.
Railings (2015) argue that this lack on social skills affects their communicative
capabilities and increases their introvert behavior.
A major psychological consequence is the damage that technology causes on people´s
relationships. Real life communication has been decreasing through the last years and
has been replaced by on-line interaction. Furthermore, not only face to face
communication is affected by technology, but even personal relationships are being
damaged as well. For instance, teenagers influenced by online pornography tend to
consider sexual behavior differently. They expect their sexual relations to be as they
watch on videos and, when those expectations are not achieved, they get disappointed
and go back to the internet to find what they cannot live in real-life experiences.
To conclude, technological advances such as new smartphones and social networking
trigger many implications for people. Young people are the most affected population
because they are used to deal with technology and they commonly use it for playing,
doing homework or watching videos. The psychical and psychological aftermaths
caused by the rise of technology must be considered and technological companies
must develop not only technology itself, but also new ways for young people to enjoy
their lives.
