6.What is The main idea of this poem?

Leisure is one the beautiful work of all time. The theme of the poem is to enjoy
nature after leaving mechanical life. The poem shows the poet’s love of nature.

In this poem, William Davies raises a very good point in his simple structured poem
that we have no time for our own self and the materialistic nature made our life
difficult and boring. Today man is so preoccupied in his material needs that he
cannot turn to nature. He diverts his attention from nature for worldly matters. He
prefers wealth and material gains over treasures of nature, that’s why we are
unable to enjoy the beauty of life.

7. William Davies makes good use of punctuation in his poem

"Leisure". Illustrate
Full stop: It is used seven times in this poem. Each full stop shows the completion of
one sense. We have no time to stand and stare. And stare as long as sheep or cows.
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass. Like skies at night. How they can dance.
Enrich that smile her eyes began. We have no time to stand and stare

Comma: It is used eleven times in this poem. The frequent use of comma reflects
the sense of wandering. They emphasize the pauses for thought and reflection.
What is this life if, full of care, No time to see, when woods we pass, No time to see,
in broad daylight, Streams full of stars, A poor life this if, full of care, No time to turn
at Beauty’s glance, And watch her feet,

Apostrophe This is used only one time in this poem in the second last couplet. The
capital B of Beauty shows the focusing message of the poet to modern man to turn
towards nature. No time to turn at Beauty’s glance, Phonological level On

. 8. In "Leisure" William Davies says that Human beings today are similar to a
machine . Explain

In This poem, William Davies explains the biggest problem of today’s life. Each and every
individual is so occupied and busy with their day to day work, to achieve the larger
objectives in life that they forget to notice the smaller things in life. The poet is very
disheartened by the fact that today human beings are deprived of the common pleasures
which are accessible to all.
We run for the whole of our lives to gain material pleasure but we should remember that we
need to stop for a few moments every now and then to enjoy these material pleasures we
have earned for ourselves.
Davies is of the opinion that if an individual is surrounded by material pleasures and has no
time to enjoy these pleasures and the beauty of nature, he or she is living a miserable and
meaningless life.

9. What does William Davies advise use in this poem?

As he believes that life must be lived in a casual and leisurely manner, he thinks that it is
extremely essential to enjoy our free time and the little breaks we get from our work to
enjoy the beauty of nature. It is essential to understand the love nature has bestowed upon
0us. If we are passing through the woods or trees we must notice the squirrels who are
trying to hide their nuts. He also thinks that we should notice the shimmering and glittering
light that is reflected in the streams at night. We should take time to notice the beautiful
glance of a maiden and admire her dancing skills and the smile of her lips. If we admire the
minute details and beauty of nature, we can fill our lives with joy and happiness. As a
result, we will also get rid of the emptiness that has essentially become a part of our lives
as a result of our fast lives.

Who loves to lie with me,
And turn his merry note
Unto the sweet bird's throat,
Come hither, come hither, come hither:
Here shall he see
No enemy
But winter and rough weather.

The verses of this song/poem are from Shakespeare's joyous and elegant
play, As You Like It, Act II, Scene 5. They are sung by the characters of Amiens
and Jacques and others in the forest. The focus of this song is upon the
happiness and beauty of the life in the forest , in contrast to that of the city. In this
song the poet says that a man can sit under a greenwood tree and enjoys nature

"ambition" of the city, let him come and live in nature where he has only the
weather to be concerned about:

Drama “Hamlet”
1) Discuss theme of revenge.
Revenge is a powerful, natural and dangerous human emotion. It is a feeling
that never sleeps. The ghost is restless because of a desire for revenge
against the person who had caused his suffering. The role of the ghost was
to ask Hamlet to avenge his death.
Hamlet was thinking all through the play whether to take revenge and if
the ghost’s words were real or not. He lacks the power of action. He thinks
too much so he did little.

2) Explain the problem of delay in Hamlet. How is it linked with the

theme of revenge?
Before Hamlet meets the ghost, he has been feeling depressed at the
quickness of his mother marriage. He suspected that his uncle killed his
father but he didn’t have any proof. After Hamlet’s meeting with the ghost. He

knew how he was killed. The ghost asked Hamlet to avenge his unnatural
death, but he did nothing. He even suspected every word the ghost had said
that it might have been the devil. He began to question himself, “to be or not
to be that is the question? “Hamlet wants to act and kill Claudius but he
needs solid proof first.
When Hamlet didn’t kill Claudius while he was praying this shows that he
wanted to take revenge not to send him to heaven. It would be a reward not a
punishment. Hamlet’s morality prevented him once more. His flaw is his
hesitance which leads to his death at the end.
3) What is the importance of the play within the play?
The murder of Gonzagois brought into a close relationship with the play as
a whole. The theme of the play is revenge, and a motive for revenge has
been provided by the Ghost. This play provides the confirmation of the
ghost’s story and it gave Hamlet the solid proof he needs to prove that
Claudius was guilty.

4) What’s Hamlet flaw?

Hamlet as a tragic hero who is responsible for his destiny it’s not by
accident. He himself is the one who is responsible to his suffering and
misery.
Hamlet suffered from a flaw or defect that leads to his downfall. And his
death. Hamlet hesitates and wavers is his tragic flaw. He is not man of
action. He is unable of any planned action. He is a thinker and a noble
prince. He thinks too much and his excessive thinking made him incapable
of action. “to be or not to be” shows how much he hated not doing action.
He always gives to him excuses not to kill Claudius.

5) The ghost plays an important role in Hamlet. Discuss.
The ghost represents the supernatural element in the play. It’s an element
of mystery, fear and suspense. It motivates the entire action of the play
and makes Hamlet begin to act.
The coming of the ghost for shadows the arrival of evil to this country
Denmark.
The theme of revenge is provided by the ghost. He wanted Hamlet to
revenge his father’s murder. The ghost arouses Hamlet doubt that the
ghost could be evil spirit which came to tempt him. Hamlet seeks
confirmation of what the ghost had told him. That’s why he thought of play
within the play. To “catch the conscience of the king”.
6) To what extent was Claudies different from his brother king Hamlet?
He was as worthless in appearance as he was an evil character. Some
people even suspected that he had killed his brother. He wasn't a kind
husband like his brother and never loved Hamlet's mother like Hamlet's
father loved her.
7) The ghost had an important role in the play. Discuss.
The ghost appeared three times in the play.
The first time it appeared for the soldiers who were Hamlet's friends but it
didn't say any word with them.
The second time it appeared to Hamlet and told him that it was murdered by
his brother and asked to take revenge on his uncle.
The third time it appeared when Hamlet was talking to his mother the queen
and she suspected that Hamlet became mad that he spoke with something
couldn't be seen. So all Hamlet's thoughts were the ghost and the words
and how to achieve its advice.

8) What delayed Hamlet from taking revenge on Claudius?
It wasn't easy to cause the death of the king because he was surrounded by
his guards. Hamlet's mother was usually with her husband and this stopped
him from doing what he wanted to do. Also the act of putting another
creature to death was hateful and terrible to someone whose character was
so naturally gentle as Hamlet.

9) Theme of madness appears in the play. Discuss.

Madness appears in the play twice. It was clear in the character she couldn’t
bear the shock of father's death by Hamlet who loved. She speaks and
sings in a crazy way and nonsense. She fantastically dressed with straws
and flowers and starts handing out various flowers to everyone in the room.
Secondly madness appears on Hamlet but this time he pretended that he
was mad to take his revenge.

B) Comment:
1- These words were said by the queen Gertrude to Hamlet as an agreement
on her husband’s words to Hamlet that he had to stop being sad and
continue living.
2- Hamlet said that to Horatis as a comment on Horatis’s speech about
Hamlet’s mother wedding.
3- It was said by Horatis to Hamlet telling him about meeting the ghost of
Hamlet’s father.
