(1) TITLE: THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ADOPT –A- SCHOOLPROGRAM IN THE

DIVISION OF PARANAQUE CITY IN RESPONSE TO SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOMENT

1.1 MAIN PROBLEM

This study aimed to assess the implementation of Adopt-A-School
Program in the Division of Paranaque City in response to sustainable
development.

1.2 SPECIFIC PROBLEMS

Specifically, it answered the following sub- problems.
1. How do the school administrators/ teachers, PTA officers and adopting
Private Entities assess the Adopt-A-School Program in terms of:
1.1 Staff and Faculty Development
1.2 Construction Facilities
1.3 Upgrading Facilities
2. Based on the findings, what developments were sustained?
3. Is there a significant relationship between assessments of the
respondents as to the aforementioned variables?

1.3 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Education is considered to be one of the most important social
services a government can provide to its citizens. The growth and
sustainability of the nation depends on the quality of education of its citizens.
The 1987 Philippine Constitution dictates that in terms of budget
educational service should receive the biggest allocation. While it is geared
towards providing free and quality education the country is still experiencing
problems in terms of development in the different aspects of education. The
lack of classrooms, dilapidated structures, and insufficient textbooks and
other learning materials and lack of proper training for school teachers are
considered perennial problems in our educational system.
One of the answers to the growing limitations of the government in
giving quality education is Act 8525, or the “Adopt-A-School Program Act”
that was enacted in 1998. Through this, private entities are given some
opportunities to help schools in developing the needs of educational
institutions.
Through the Adopt-A-School Program, private sectors are being
encouraged to participate with Deped in enhancing and developing the basic
educational system in the country. These can be done through the assistance
in terms of professional development program for teachers, donation of
school structures, books, instructional materials or even medical and dental
assistance to public schools.
This ignites the interest of the researcher to assess the
implementation of Adopt-A-School Program to find out where the program
lies. One of the interventions in enhancing the program which is seen as the
foundation is to revisit the existing law on Adopt-A-School Program Act of
1998 known as RA 8525 that serves as the guide in the implementation of
the program.
3. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

3.1 PROPOSED METHOD OF RESEARCH/RESEARCH DESIGN

The researcher used the descriptive method of research, defined by the

Best and Kahn(2005) as study concerned with conditions or relationships that
exist, opinions that are held, processes that are going on, effects that are
evident or trends that are developing. It is primarily concerned with the present,
although it is often considers past events and influences as they relate to current
conditions. It also deals with the relationships between variables, the
testing of hypotheses, and the development of generalizations, principles or
theories that have universal validity.
The descriptive method of research was employed to gather information
about sustainable development of schools in Paranaque through Adopt –A-
School Program.

3.2 SOURCES OF DATA

1.Survey Questionnaire
2.Dissertation books
3.Interviews
4.Encyclopedia
5.Manuals
6.Internet
7.Handbooks

3.3 RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY

- School Administrators/ Teachers
-PTA Officers
-Adopting Private Entities
3.4 INSTRUMENTATION
The questionnaire was the main instrument used for data gathering. The
researcher prepared the questionnaire based on his review of related literature and
studies. It was a self-researcher-made instrument while the system of interview used
was a structured system to insure that all respondents were asked the same manner,
the answers were easy to collect and were already expected as to what it was
supposed to be. Therefore, a quantitative data collection was needed to conduct the
test since each area had sub-topics and the respondents were only asked to choose the
letter of the given correct answer that were measurable as either right or wrong.

3.5 STATISTICAL TREATMENT

The data gathered were compiled, collated and summarized separately
per group. The responses for each item were categorized based on the specific
problems raised.

The following were utilized in the treatment of the data.

1. Frequency
2. Percentage
3. Weighted Mean
Formula:

WM= F5x5+(F4x4+(F3x3)+(F2x2)+(F1x1)
