How the IoT
can cut energy bills
Smart meters can help to make energy use more efficient by allowing users to monitor their own usage, provide
real-time billing information, and virtually remove the need for workers to check meters manually.

By 2020, the European Commission wants 80% of European consumers to be able to monitor their energy usage
and the Spanish government is going even faster. Madrid has called for all Spanish consumers to have this
information by 2018. It’s a tough challenge, but Vodafone is helping Spanish energy distributer EDP HC Energía
make it happen for its over 650,000 customers.

Vodafone supplies easy-to-install previously-configured 3G routers which only need to be connected to the
existing electricity network and make it possible to start transmitting data across Vodafone’s extensive mobile
network right away.

2018 “In addition to our previous experience with the company and
its in depth knowledge of the energy sector, one of the most
important factors in choosing Vodafone was the availability of
a national roaming service. This means we can operate with
650,000 any operator at any point on our distribution network”
