Abstract

I carried out an action research on possessive pronouns and possessive determiners

during my second phase of practicum in an urban national primary school located in Kuching,
Sarawak. The focus of this research is to enhance the understanding of Year 4 pupils toward
possessive pronouns and possessive determiners through game-based learning. My
participants were with mixed abilities of English proficiency. The Money Mania game is game-
based and was initiated based on the concept taken from a popular television shows known as
“Who Wants to be a Billionaire”. I collected the data using observation, document analysis, and
feedback from the pupils. The data collected were analysed, interpreted and triangulated. The
findings showed that my pupils understand better the possessive pronouns and possessive
determiners, and I have improved my teaching practice by using “Money Mania” game in the
teaching of grammar. This “Money Mania” game could be further enhanced to achieve more
self-regulated learning.
