SLOPE STABILITY ANALYSIS USING ORDINARY METHOD OF SLICES

The given slope of is drawn and presented in a separate sheet. The failure wedge is divided into 16 nos of vertical
strips or slices. Each slice is assumed to act independently as a column of a soil of unit thickness and of width b.It
is assumed that forces on opposite sides of each slice are equal and opposite i.e. problem is statically
determinate. Weight W of each slice is assumed to act at its centre and is resolved into normal (N) and tangential
(T) components. The angle a i.e. inclination to the horizontal of a tangent drawn at the base of a slice is measured
for each of the slice. The weight of each slice is also determined by multiplying the area of each slice with the unit
weight of the soil. A number of trial slip circles are choosen and the minimum factor of safety among these is the
critical slip circle.
