Previous Problem Solutions

Previously Tesco attempted to improve employee performance by increasing employee

motivation. In order to improve employee motivation, they introduced various rewards and

incentive which was very costly. However, it did not improve the overall level of performance

has expected. Rather employees became even more concern about individual goal achieving

which was already a problem. While individual rewards system was able to have some impact on

the employees’ motivation to perform better it certainly did not improve their skills and abilities.

Proposed Problem Solutions

3

The current solution includes team work and frequent performance appraisal. What the

organization is lacking is a collective effort to improve their overall performance and also there

is a skill gap that individual rewarding failed to solve. The proposed solution will concentrate on

collective goal achieving and with frequent performance appraisal the problems regarding the

employees’ skills and abilities will be addressed and fixed (Moon, 2014).

Conclusion

The proposed solutions would be very appropriate under the current circumstance. The

score of “team work” throughout all the criteria is great, however, performance appraisal has a

poor score in term of cost-effectiveness and employee satisfaction.
