Data Innovation: Spotify Discover Weekly! 

 

Innovation Purpose 
The Goal Of Spotify Discover Weekly is to show people
new songs similar to their taste. It was created so
people can keep using Spotify since it helps them
discover new artists. It allowed for people to find out
about new songs and artists they may like.
Innovation Function 
Spotify Discover Weekly uses data within their system,
the data is the playlists that others made, it would look
for songs that you like within other people’s playlist and
if you listened to similar songs, the system will choose
one of the songs from the playlists. The system uses a
algorithm to connect your personal music tastes with
other people’s music that have similar taste. The data
is public, since the data is the playlist that everyone
makes.
 
Beneficial Effect on Society, Economy, or Culture 
A group that benefits is music therapists. They benefit since Discover can show them new songs that they can use
during therapy sessions. I think Spotify Discover Weekly benefits all three, society, economy, and culture. It benefits
society since it allows people to hear new songs that can lead them to meet others and make connections with new
people. It benefits the economy since new artists could be discovered and it can possibly jump start their career.
Finally, it benefits culture since it can teach others about cultures that have music similar to the one they like, for
example maybe someone listening to rock can get in to Spanish Rock.
