My essay will be written to help portray and inform those about the influence on behavior

caused from underlying effects created by social media. I want to not only inform those who are

involved, but also what kind of overall power social media has with those who are often victimized,

and those who are observant. I feel that most people relate to different posts and things spread

throughout social media, so researching this kind of information and logic that is already

prominent, is extremely intriguing for this generation. I firmly believe that the influence of social

media is a new movement of quality interaction that needs to be heard from more voices than one.

Knowing that there is an influence, how strong or weak can it really be to those who are involved

in that exposure? Is the influence of behavior caused by underlying social media creations, or is it

exaggerated?

This article was written by Rachel Ehmke, a managing editor employed at the Child

Mind Institute. Experts who have conducted research intertwining with social media have stated

that there are good reasons behind there being worrisome behaviors and other factors of

outcomes involving social media being taken into accountability. Rachel Ehmke categorizes

stated that being more involved in other activities can help eliminate issues and create more

This article presented is directly advocating voices for those who are mostly in their

teenage years, and attracts minimal attention from parents with suggestions of guidance. Purpose

of this article is to propose several goals and ideals for teens who are involved in the world of

social media to interact in the real world to avoid the negativity proposed online. This site also

demonstrates examples from teens to those in their twenties, and acknowledges parental

guidance in order to maintain proper adequacy for an ideal self-image and initiate more self-

esteem in adolescents.

I plan to correspond this site into my research proposal with identifying key elements

involved in social media within the scale of mindset intelligence. Implementing this information

Using business, fabrication, access of information, and including roles in communication, Jenny

Force pieces together the puzzle. Force stated that between 2005 and 2008, there were studies

done that proved Google was the most visited site on the media in comparison to Instagram,

Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat. Speaking on frequently visited sites, this writer also concluded

that due to relevance in newer apps, MySpace quickly deteriorated and had fade from existence.

Changing the ways society has merged into social media has been a step that has been taken in

regards to better socialization.

This article speaks out to consumers of business, consumers of media, viewers of sports

and entertainment, and even people involved in politics that are affected by social media and its

influences. Speaking to a mass of people in different fields of interest, L’Ecuyer has

acknowledged and brought to surface the realization of the media being the commonplace for

confusion and distraction.

Jenny Force is involved in the Computer Software Industry, and serves the role of a

business development representative. Force is also a VP in Marketing, and has over 500+

connections with other people who serve roles in the same career field. This writer can be found

through LinkedIn, and is highly recommended through those who read her work. This article was

published by Sysomos in August of 2016, but stands tall in relevance with proper accuracy and

equivalent facts.

This article will be used to help me define more examples in ays social media has

changed society as far as consumption with purchases done online, discussions made through

online service, and how the media has created different strategies to improve its’ effectiveness in

persuasion and interaction. This source will also give me more background information in

regards to how the media is involved with politics and media entertainment abroad.

Gaitho, Maryanne. “What Is the Real Impact of Social Media?” Simplilearn.com, Simplilearn, 12

Shaping the world through multiple aspects of diverse use throughout the media is the

real topic of discussion here. Gaitho cited sources, studies, and credible people discussing how

the media has made it in the hands and collectively altered the way business, world culture,

education, politics, and multiple careers come about. This article not only states information, but

each survey and statistic prompted shows factual evidence of collecting news, expressing

information, implementing social networks into the workforce, and other case studies showing

many benefits and risks.

The audience expressed throughout this article is people mainly involved in the business

behind the social networks, and other companies who use social media for their benefit.

Maryanne Gaitho had gathered information through studies relating to social networking, there

has been results showing that lower social shares can lead to negative results and can supposedly

“destroy” business credibility.

Gaitho is involved in telecommunications, insight and retail accounting management, and

has been involved in international interactions. Simplilearn has stated that social media and

communication technology has changed vastly in the past twenty years. This article connects

with New York Times Consumer Insight Group that shares entertaining content with support

behind multiple brands and other social media sites that are know to persuade their consumers

and viewers to purchase their products. The information was published in late 2018 which

conveys that it is still relevant and convenient with the information discussed and established.

This article will be used to help discuss the effects social media has on society. I also plan

to use this article to help include and implement further questions regarding social media and the

altered behavior that is left up in the air. This potential information can help me express in

greater detail the reasons behind social media being stereotyped so easily.

Hurley, Katie. “Social Media and Teens: How Does Social Media Affect Mental Health?”

Founder of Girls Can! Empowerment, Katie Hurley, has opened severals workshops

involving learning messages on a spectrum of children and other adolescents with effects of

social media in correlation to behavior. Hurley, is also an author of The Happy Kid Handbook

and No More Mean Girls, contributes towards educational movements and workshops for social

media and other relating behaviors.

The workshops are introduced to adolescents and children exposed to the media,

experience working with others who are associated with learning disabilities, self-image and

self-esteem doubt, depression, and anxiety. Hurley’s overall goal is to encourage children and

adolescents to find a happy medium between social media interaction and face-to-face

confrontation. Doing this, there are hopes to eliminate overlapping issues such as cyberbullying,

altering appearances, and other highlights that seem to shine through the cell phone or laptop

screen.

Hurley’s academic article was published on Mental Health Treatment Resource Since

1986. Hurley not only is the founder of an empowerment and an author, but she is a contributor

in providing psychotherapy, family therapy, and other education within her own private practice.

This information was published in 1996, and recently updated on March 7, 2019; adding more

credible information and proper accuracy.

I will be using the information in this article to provide examples and studies proving that

social media counteracts brain waves and attracts increased activity throughout several centers of

the mind. This information will also be beneficial in my proposal discussing isolation,

connection, and support. Implementing these aspects into my research proposal is ideal for

overall coverage on the positives and negatives on countless forms of media interactions.

Social media has created boundaries for the inevitable. Wisely, the media has grasped the

concept of obligating their viewers to express their thoughts and emotions through online

sources. Researchers and scientists have combined their work ethic to conduct and define the

connection of social media and mental health, into surveys and other sources of research. Upon

discussion of social media and behavior, there has been talk on how people use social media, and

how that is where the spiral of issues becomes relevant rather than the time spent on social

media. Director, David Ginsberg and scientist, Moira Burke have discussed problematic events

between multiple social media platforms, thus giving more support behind positive and negative

outcomes.

Danielle L’Ecuyer has divided her stance into multiple audiences. Directly, it is

noticeably attracted to social media users in all aspects. Less obvious, but similarly just as

important, it is also directed towards ourselves; with more one-on-one accountability. L’Ecuyer’s

goal is to objectively simplify the issues of social media interaction into correspondence with

overall wellness and behavior challenges. This article does discuss the effects of using social

media, but focuses on important aspects directed more to mental health than outrageous

behavior. Overall, this article demonstrates effective steps towards minimizing triggers, and

improving quality interaction.

This article was published through HealthPrep in January of 2018. L’Ecuyer graduated

from York University, and is popular with other colleagues on LinkedIn. This writer is currently

involved in Bell Media, and shares connections with 100 other writers. Danielle L’Ecuyer is a

publisher, digital media and promotions expert, and shares other interests in relating topics.

Studies were done in 2016, but this article has been updated in early 2018, so the information is

relevant due to the studies being accurate through the time they were announced and conducted.

I will be using this research in my proposal to really emphasize that mental health is set

aside from behavioral challenges. This will promote my paper and dig deeper into other concepts

that are underlying issues of social media and involved within human interaction as well. Mental

health is a very huge portion of why social media generates issues, and using the statistics,

studies, and information within this article will help me piece together my proposal.

Marin, Vanessa. "How to Navigate Social Media Boundaries in a Relationship." The New York

Throughout this article, there are pieces and parts that really grab the eye of the reader.

Marin introduced facts of coaches in sexual psychology to intervene their ideals and methods

when complimenting a relationship with social media tolerance. Territory is a keyword that

seems to be a concept used in the playing field of the media and personal connections, afterall.

Beginning in 2014, there has been at least 45 percent millennials that seem to categorize social

media as a territorial category in a relationship.

Vanessa Marin had a purpose in writing this article by using emotions conveyed through

the screen in relation to why feelings expressed through a screen are just as important as the

feelings spoken in face-to-face interaction. The audience that has been directed in this article are

those in relationships. Not only is the expression of emotions the purpose of this article, but time

management according to personal time spent with each partner, versus the time spent on social

media has been a controversial topic of discussion.

Marin is a licensed psychotherapist who specializes in sexual therapy. This

psychotherapist had her article published through The New York Times in 2017, and remains

relevant due to the information prevalent during the time of the article. Marin obtained her

Master’s in Psychology from the CIIS and obtained her B.A. in Human Sexuality from Brown

University. Although Vanessa Marin specializes in a personalized therapy, her article uses

relationships as the ideal topic of discussion when speaking about social media’s involvement

with partners and their preferences.

I will be using this article to help construct another percepted vision on how social media

can counteract in relationships for the good and the poor. This article approaches social media

from other viewpoints rather than positivity and negativity. A major highlight is discomfort and

reassurance, and how those can be shown through social media. Social media speaks volumes for

those who like to portray extended images of themselves and others around them, but nobody

ever really ties discomfort and doubt with social media.

Spencer, Keith A. “A Psychology Researcher Explains How Social Media Is Changing Us.”

Social media has become more of a product of our environment rather than a

consumption. Researchers’ proceed to explain that most people who are consumed into social

media are the product and not the consumers. Surfing the internet has been a reliable source to

those finding outlets to express feelings of emotion. Keith A. Spencer manages Salon, and is

very relevant throughout this source.

This article is directed towards the readers and responders to the article written. Salon

introduces concepts negotiated between the eyes of the beholder and the reader of the written

information. This piece is to evoke the emotions within a person to express what is really

beneath the barrier of the wounds or above the superficial layer of their thoughts. Although this

article is directed toward a broad audience, I find that there is other connections and levels of

interest involving Dr. Eric Vogel, a doctor in the Department of Psychiatry at The University of

California, San Francisco. Dr. Vogel specializes in the research and studies of of social media

and personal well-being. Due to Dr. Vogel’s stance throughout this article, the message that is

being conveyed through different voices and levels of recognition is absurd.

Keith A. Spencer is an author of “A People’s History of Silicon Valley: How The Tech

Industry Exploits Workers, Erodes Privacy and Undermines Democracy”, released under

Eyewear Publishing in 2018. Not only does Spencer manage Salon, he also is the lead of science,

tech, and other health coverages involving psychology, social media and other suggestions of

aspirations in behavior. This source was published in early 2018, and is still holding relevant and

current information that relates to technology, health, and other forms of science involving

behaviors, occurrences, and observations.

This article presented will be used to explain why those who are consumed within social

media often post things to represent a positive lifestyle, although it is different behind closed

doors. I feel that this article will help support where the problems erupt, and where the problem

in altar of behavior spouts from. I hope to be able to use comparisons between different sources

of media spoken throughout the article to help me pull together and tighten the concept on why

social media can affect those from different angles and aspects of someone’s personal interest

and attraction.
