fotoelemento y laser.
ABSTRACT
A polarizer is formed by a material that only allows the passage of light whose electric field vibrates
parallel to a certain direction, known as the transmission axis of the polarizer. Malus' law
quantitatively expresses the relation between the intensity I0 of the incident light, the angle θ that its
plane of vibration forms with the axis of transmission and the intensity I of the transmitted light; If
linearly polarized light is incident on a linear polarizer, the intensity of the radiation passing through it
will gradually decrease as the angle θ increases. In this laboratory practice the Malus law will be
verified, as well as the behavior of the light intensity transmitted by a polarizing filter as a function of
the angular position of the filter. To do this, we will start by connecting the photoelement to the
ammeter to make sure of its operation, then we turn on the laser, the beam is directed towards the slit
of the photoelement with the polarizer between them, then the polarizing filter was set at zero degrees,
the intensity was taken , as was also the cosine squared angle, this was done for every 10 °. Thanks to
this, it was possible to fulfill the objective of verifying Malus's law and analyze the behavior of the
intensity of the light transmitted by a polarizing filter as a function of the angular position, likewise it
was possible to plot the current as a function of the angle and the current as a function of the cosine to
the square of the angle. For this, a polarizer, multimeter, photoelement and laser were used.
