Something to be Proud of

As a child, most will have dreams that will be turned into reality, but how many will make

history? I was a child once and had a very big dream, but it was not just any easy dream. I had a

dream where history is to be made if achieved. My dream consisted of being a state champion

in high school football. The want to be a state champion started with a dream, then I realized

what had to be done for it to be made possible, and last I made my dream come true. To be a

state champion is not easy, but when achieved it comes with more pride and enjoyment than

one can ever imagine.

It all started with a dream. Growing up, I was very involved with whatever sports teams, I

could be a part of such as baseball, football, and basketball. A lot of my involvement had to do

with my father being a high school football coach. I grew up as a coach’s son and with that

comes the expectations of being an exceptional athlete. I was around the game of football a lot

growing up, as I was the water boy for my dads’ teams. His players became like big brothers

and as a kid you begin to want to be one of those big football players. Watching them I realized

what they were competing for every football season and that was a state championship. Once I
learned you can achieve something that only certain few can say they accomplished, I was

hooked. I wanted to be a state champion when I got older.

As I grew older, I learned that a state championship is not just given, you must learn what it

takes to get one. Growing up, I adopted the leadership role. A team can not be running without

leaders, everyone needs guidance and reassurance. I had to learn to apply myself because you

will only get out of something as much effort you put into it. I also learned that you must be

optimistic, nothing goes as planned. When you apply all those qualities at the same time you

can achieve anything.

Putting together all those qualities is what I did, and I made dreams come true. My junior

and senior years of high school I was a back to back state champion in football for small town

Tipton, Oklahoma. I had finally brought my childhood dream to reality, but what I realized is

there was more that came with the state champion title. I developed memories that will never

be forgotten. When playing for something so big you develop a bond with your team and it is a

feeling that most must witness themselves. I made history, I will be in the books for generations

on to live. Also, it was a time in my life where my emotions will forever be at their highest.

In conclusion, the state champion title is a sense of pride and accomplishment. It is a symbol

of a group of young men who know the importance of responsibility and respect. It is a time

when your emotions are at their highest point and you will never feel a sense of greater pride.

A state championship is definitely something to be proud of.
