SAMR/ISTE Paper

My personal technology goals are to increase the integration of technology. I don’t fully

believe in only using technology when teaching children because I feel it affects their mental

health. I would like to use technology during English, Math, Science, Social Studies and Foreign

Language. In English, social studies, and foreign language we can use iPad instead of books. We

can save paper and it will be easier to search for key word, annotating and highlighting. In

science and math, I think it will be really helpful to kids when they need to search key word, or if

they are having a trouble understanding videos can be attached and it can explain it. I think it is

important for kids to have skills in technology, but I do not think it should get in the way of a

child being a child. For example, kids need to interact not through the internet but on a

playground.

ISTE standard for students would be very beneficial to students. The ISTE consist of 7

factors: empowered learner, digital citizen, knowledge constructer, innovative designer,

computational thinker, creative communicator, and global collaborator. All of these factors will

make a student well diverse and strengthen their abilities. It creates a new type of learning and

lets student be creative. Rather than having teachers teach them they can learn on their own. And

it gives students the freedom to experience something new. Most students don’t know what they

want to do (career wise) because they are not exposed to the real world.
In my classroom, I would facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity. I will

support growing and thinking. Allowing students to discover new learning methods will help

them in the long run, I can do this through support and innovative thinking. We can use real

world issues and try to solve it with technology. For example, I can show them how to access

graphs and statistics that shows us the GDP of a country. Having this type of learning

environment will be fun and I think it is more motivational for students to want to do better and

learn. I can engage in professional growth and leadership to help teach my students. Having the

ability have access globally, we have the ability to have a community build on ideas. We can

evaluate and contribute to research. Even being a teacher we have the ability to stay up to date

with new technology. Most of the time older people lose the ability to understand technology, so

this will always be a lesson for me as well.

The SAMR model can be applied to technology in the classroom. First, I would begin the

swapping process to technology. Secondly, I would apply augmentation. Augmentation acts as a

direct substitution and functionally it improves. An example, would be reading an online book

that include links that explain and teaches them further it increases the student’s productivity.

After comes the modification process. The modification process consists of redesigning the

technology. This would allow students to work in a cloud space work place. When working on a

project they can all share and collaborate their ideas. It will expose them to a new thinking

process since they are all working together. Third, comes the redefinition stage. For example.

sometimes your community you live in has an impact on your ideal and opinions. So, using this

technology we can speak or read other people’s opinion and learn what other people think and

their ideals. This will have a great impact on the growth of a student mind. They will not just

have one way of thinking when coming to problem solving. These steps cause a huge
transformation in the learning and teaching community. Kids learn a lot of things during

elementary, middle school, high school and college but sometimes they learn a lot of things that

are not applicable to the real world. I would really like to improve children cognitive skills.

School is supposed to be a safe haven where kids have the ability to learn and be themselves. I

graduated high school in 2015, and the class I remember the most was my computer science

class. My professor taught us coding and it was the most laidback class I have over taken in high

school and it’s the class I remember the most. All of our lessons were done on the computers.

After my teacher was done teaching we were allowed to take 10 minutes at the end of class to

explore and use our knowledge of computers. I want all kids to feel this way. I am a math based

person, I remember nothing from high school but I happened to remember this class.
