DESCRIPTION AND Guide plate unit

Because FIFTH and REVERSE are on straight line in
OPERATION the shift pattern, a shift interlock is installed to prevent a
direct shift from FIFTH gear into REVERSE.
The reverse lock out cam is mounted on the interlock

Manual transaxle assembly The reverse lock out cam is spring - loaded to block the

The clutch housing includes the following components; position, the contour of the reverse lock out cam directs
the crank lever into the NEUTRAL position.
• Clutch release components The crank lever can enter the REVERSE gear position
• Speedometer gear only from the NEUTRAL position.

either side of the center notch represent a gear
Synchromesh position.
The disadvantages of the sliding-mesh and the
constant-mesh are because the speeds of the meshing
clutch and the sliding gear do not coincide, noise is
produced, tooth wear is hastened, breakage occurs
easily, and shifting becomes difficult.
To overcome these, the synchromesh system is used to
quickly equalize speeds of meshing teeth. This system
can generally be called a synchro mechanism.
The main advantage of this type is that double-clutching
is not necessary during shifting, resulting in a smoother
meshing of gears. Overall shifting is rapid and good,
and acceleration performance is found to be much
better than in the other systems described.
