Research Proposal

When I was two years old my twin brothers were born. For as long as I can

remember my younger brother Josh has always been a little different. Not in a bad way

but not like the rest of the kids. He had some difficulties in early school and some

issues with his fine motor skills. He also had problems communicating with other

people. These problems were not very significant at all but they were slowly becoming

more noticeable as he got older. After going to countless doctors they all came to the

final conclusion that he has Autism. I have decided to do my research project on

Autism because I still am not that familiar with it even though I’m around it every day.

I think Autism is going to be such an interesting topic to research. With such

variety in the condition, there will be a lot of information to absorb. It will take a lot to

come to the source of the rise in the condition. I think Autism or special needs, in

general, are amazing. When someone has special needs they are such happy

individuals. I work with a lot of special needs kids in school and they are the best

people to be around. I believe there is a lot about autism that people are unaware

about. They are unaware of how common the condition is and how it is becoming more

and more common. I already know a decent amount about Autism. I know there is a lot

of variety to the condition. There are people who live with almost no problem at all, they
can conquer the world, while there are others who have many challenges including not

being able to speak or take care of themselves.

My main goal with this research project is to find out what options they have in

the real world in the workplace. It is obvious from the beginning that the majority of

adults with autism are going to struggle to find a job and I want to find out why this is the

case and what opportunities they have out there that are not as well known. My goal is

to spread the word about the benefits of people with autism in the workplace and what

they can do to benefit the company.

I am planning on starting with articles. There is so much research out there on

the condition so I’m going to broaden my knowledge of the condition first. I am hoping

to find how common autism actually is as well as why it is becoming so common. I am

also hoping to have a better understanding of what is going on within the brain and if

there are any known causes of the condition. All of these answers are needed for

putting together this project. I am looking forward to the research and expanding my

knowledge on something that is so close to home.
