Vegetarianism Research Proposal

When I was younger, I’d tell my friends that I lived in a forest because of how many trees

surrounded my home. The trees were my best friends; their welcoming arms were happy to hold

me up to the birds and planes. You can imagine the fits I would throw when my dad needed to

trim or cut them down. My love for the environment has only grown since my youth. Likewise,

so has my disapproval for things that harm the environment, specifically the meat industry. I

rarely eat red meat simply because I don't like it, but I consciously try to eat less chicken than I

normally would. Recently, the topic of vegetarianism has become more popular in the media.

That’s what sparked my idea of researching the benefits of being a vegetarian. Through my

research, I hope to learn and share the most convincing reasons for why people should try to

partially or completely remove meat from their diet. I might choose to focus more on how

detrimental the meat industry is to the environment and why people need to choose to not

support the industry.

In my opinion, vegetarians are superheroes to the environment. I feel very strongly that

the meat industry needs to be scaled back and partially destroyed. Before doing any research, I

think that by not supporting the meat industry, vegetarians are directly responsible for improving

the quality of the environment. While helping better the world, they are simultaneously bettering

their health – which is inspiring. I believe that more people need to reject meat in an attempt to

protect what little aspects of a healthy environment we have. I think a protest on meat is just

what our environment needs. I already know that the meat industry is a major contributor to

global warming and air and water pollution. Through supply and demand, vegetarians are

responsible for the production of less meat, which in return decreases the negative environmental

impacts the meat industry has.

Throughout this research paper, I am hoping to learn the most useful information about

the meat industry that I can use to argue why more people should be vegetarians. To start my

research, I might watch a documentary on the meat industry and find out exactly how harmful it

is to the environment. I’m interested in studying the health benefits vegetarianism has on a body

and how the removal of meat from one’s diet affects the environment. A couple of research

questions I have are: Why should people be vegetarians? Why should the meat industry be scaled

back?
