The True, Pure, and Simple Gospel of Jesus Christ
Major Themes: Simplicity.
Stories:
● Release from the 12 is not the best option right now. Pray it will only come after I’ve done all the Lord
has called me to do.
● The Lord wants us all to have Peace, Joy and Happiness
● There’s peace despite the struggles of the world.
● Do the very best you can day after day
○ That is all the Lord asks for.
○ You will come to realize that your Heavenly Father knows you and loves you.
189th Annual General Conference * April 6 - 7, 2019
Saturday AM * Saturday PM * Priesthood * Sunday AM * Sunday PM

● Lucifer wants to dim down the light of Christ in our life

● The spiritual purposes of the recent changes might be lost in the excitement of the changes
themselves. “I worry that the spiritual purposes of the adjustments might be lost in the excitement in the
changes themselves”
● Remember the simple gospel
○ Article of faith
● The two great commandments are Love the Lord thy God and Love thy neighbor as thyself
● Every change and program is built around the basic and fundamental commandments to love God and
our neighbors.
● The sabbath day should be a day of: Joy, Rejoicing, Thanksgiving, Cheerful hearts, & Cheerful
countenances
● Can you see that learning and teaching the gospel in our families is an important way to find joy and
happiness?
● Great everyone who comes to our meetings
● All enjoy in singing the sacrament hymn
● Avoid just telling stories and travel adventures during testimony meeting. Testimonies should focus on
the Savior.
● Keep it Simple (KISS) (Keep it simple saints?)
○ Keep our testimony simple
○ Joy comes from simple things.
○ More does not need to be added
● Help
○ Adult
○ Families
○ Youth
● Gather Israel - through conversion, retention and activation.
● ‘I receive divine guidance far beyond my capacity’
● All the recent adjustments come back to loving God and loving our neighbor
● Let's not complicate things with extra meetings
● "President Nelson is carrying the Lord’s work forward at a breathtaking pace. I say 'breathtaking'
because he’s the only one of the Apostles who is older than me, and I am having a difficult time
keeping up with him!"

Talk: Mathias Held - General Authority Seventy

Seeking Knowledge by the Spirit
Major Themes: Perspectives; the eye of faith
Stories:
● Light comes from our minds and the Holy Ghost
● Personal growth
● The Lord is always patient with us
● 1. The Lord delivers commandments line upon line and precept upon precept
● 2. Still soft voice that speaks to our mind
189th Annual General Conference * April 6 - 7, 2019
Saturday AM * Saturday PM * Priesthood * Sunday AM * Sunday PM

● EYES
○ We have two eyes to give us different perspectives in life
○ Don’t neglect the spirit
● “Through the gift of the Holy Ghost, the Father has also provided us with a second perspective, which is
really the most important and true one, because it comes directly from Him.”

Hymn: Praise to the Lord, The Almighty - Hymn (#)

Talk: Elder Neil L. Andersen - Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

The Eye of Faith
Major Themes: Truth
Stories:
● What is truth?
● We live in information and opinion overload
● ‘What is true for you is true for you, what is true for me is true for me’ – Socrates
○ But we know that there are fundamental and eternal truths in the gospel.
● Voices of the adversary are always the same. The adversary tries to undermine eternal truth
● Truth looks backward, forward, and expands our boundaries
● Eye
○ Have an eye of faith
○ Questions can be settled with patience and an eye of faith.

● In ways we don’t understand, our premortal growth influences our mortal experiences
● Rise in the resurrection
● Questions will remain even when we’re faithful
● There is no "my truth," "his truth" or "her truth." There is only THE TRUTH which is God's truth.
● Some may call our traditions foolish or old-fashioned, but those traditions are the only way back to our
Heavenly Father.
● Jesus Christ teaches us that it does not matter if we are rich or poor, prominent or unknown,
sophisticated or simple.
● We are obligated to speak on defense of the unborn.
189th Annual General Conference * April 6 - 7, 2019
Saturday AM * Saturday PM * Priesthood * Sunday AM * Sunday PM

● The Family Proclamation includes many fundamental, eternal truths.

● We have seen the world's view change on the principles found in the proclamation on the family
● One purpose of prophets is to help us resolve our questions.
● “Prophets see ahead,” President Nelson says. “They see the harrowing dangers the adversary has
placed, or will yet place, in our path. Prophets also foresee the grand possibilities and privileges
awaiting those who listen with the intent to obey.
● The microcosm of our lives is not sufficient experience or proof of absolute truth. The family
proclamation gives us God's perspective on salvation, strength, and joy.
○ They are not forgotten
○ Thecvvi9=i== lord knows our sacrifice
○ He will lift our burdens
● Likening those leaving the church over the truths taught in The Proclamation to those leaving Christ in
Capernaum.
○ 66 ¶ From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
○ 67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal
life.
○ 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
● God’s Standards are not of this world.
● There is one who does understand your situation.
○ As you seek the Savior, He will bless you.

Talk: Takashi Wada - General Authority Seventy

Feasting upon the Words of Christ

Major Themes: Feasting upon the words of Christ

Stories: 4 year old child gives Elder Wada's mother a hymnal
● All invited to come unto Christ
● Feasting is more than a delicious meal, it’s a celebration, nurishment, joy.
● Feast on the words of Christ and they will tell us what we should do.
● The scriptures should bring us Real Joy and Build our relationship with the Savior.
● Feasting sometimes involves experimenting
● When was the last time you feasted on the words of Christ? Snacking isn't enough.
● The blessings of feasting on the words of Christ are powerful and life-changing
● Three blessings of feasting on the word of God
○ 1. Increase our spiritual capacity to receive revelation and guide us through our lives.
■ We will need the Holy Ghost to keep going through
○ 2. Let us know who we are and where we belong
■ Enos
○ 3. Lift lives of others through the words of Christ
■ Many of us get discouraged when the desired result of opening our mouths doesn’t
189th Annual General Conference * April 6 - 7, 2019
Saturday AM * Saturday PM * Priesthood * Sunday AM * Sunday PM

happen
● Follow our promptings
● The words of Christ can help us increase our spiritual capacity to receive revelation and safely guide us
through life
● Regardless of the outcome, the Lord invites us to open our mouth and share the gospel message with
them.
● The words of Christ will profoundly touch hearts and open the eyes of those who do not yet see Him
● Feasting can occur at any time and any occasion if we are prepared and prepare our hearts

Talk: David P. Homer - General Authority Seventy

Hearing His Voice
Major Themes:
Stories: Flying with a new pilot, During illness John endured to the end in Christ
● We will have multiple voices seeking our attention and it is vital we listen to the right ones.
○ It can be difficult to know which voices to trust. Sometimes we crowdsource, believing that most
people will listen to the right voices.
○ It is vital that we follow the right one.
○ What is the right voice?
● What is popular is not always best.
● Convenience rarely leads to things that matter.
● We sometimes Crowd Source and believe the Majority will provide truth.
● Halting between two opinions brings no direction
● If we are not careful, the wrong voices can draw us away from the gospel center.
● If we spend too much time in faithless places, seemingly harmless(?) voices deprive us of spiritual
truth.
● Hikers have the deathzone where oxygen is limited.
○ If we spend too much time in faithless places…[we open ourselves to spiritual death]
● Learning the many ways Christ speaks to us is a lifelong quest.
○ Ask yourself find out How does the lord speak to you?
● Seaking Christ voice is many places is good.
● Watch, wait, and listen. When it speaks, obey.
● Prophets tell us what we need to know whether it is popular or not.
● When the answer doesn’t come… Not the right time, an answer is not needed, or God trusts us
○ God will not let you proceed to far without a warning impression.
● The more diligently we seek his voice the easier it is to hear. The voice doesn’t get louder but our ability
to hear it increases. Which voice will we obey
○ The more diligently we seek to hear His voice the easier it is to hear. It is not that He is louder,
we are just more able to hear.

Hymn BYU Choir : Jesus Once of Humble Birth

189th Annual General Conference * April 6 - 7, 2019
Saturday AM * Saturday PM * Priesthood * Sunday AM * Sunday PM

‘Don’t forget Priesthood session tonight or that there’s more conference tomorrow, but if you’re listening to
conference on Saturday afternoon, you probably already know that’

Talk: Jeffrey R. Holland - Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Behold the Lamb
Major Themes:
Stories: Sacrifice
● Imagery of a sacrificial lamb for who would die for the whole world.
● Adam and Eve were promised that help would come … and the first sacrifice
○ Similitude of the only Begotten of the Father
● Sacrifice of a lamb was a type of the sacrifice of The Lamb.
● Sacrificing lambs didn’t work well. Sometimes the lessons of sacrifices didn’t last long.
○ The moral resolve that should have accompanied the sacrifice didn’t last.
● Christ introduced the sacrament… A more personal form of the sacrifice. Deeper and more personal.
● You shall offer a broken heart and a contrite spirit. And he who shall come to me with a broken heart
and a contrite spirit, him shall I baptize with fire.
● Our modified sunday service is to reduce the complexity of the meeting schedule in a way that properly
emphasise the significance of the Lord’s Supper as the focal point of our worship service.
○ With more home center activities doesn't mean we should skip out on our Sunday meetings. We
Still should go to church on sunday
● ‘Such a moment demands our respect’
● Come to our services early and reverently
○ Don’t worry if you’re late, especially if you have young kids.
● Sunday best has lost a little meaning in our time.
● Late pass is ok for mothers with young children
● Tarteness should not be a regular thing
● Occasional tardiness is understandable, but if the ox is in the mire every sunday, we recommend that
you sell the ox or fill the mire.
● Visiting with others is important part of church, but don’t do so loudly in places that are supposed to be
places of worship.
● Don’t take up time during sacrament meeting for things that can be done at other times and places. A
pinewood derby is great but doesn’t need to be announced in sacrament meeting.
● When the sacred hour comes to offer our sacrificial gift to the lord we have our shortcomings to resolve.
We might be more successful in that contrition if we’re more mindful of the other hearts around us. …
Might we silently take note of that and offer our crust of comfort and tiny cup of compassion.
● Take note of the members who aren’t in sacrament meeting
● There’s no shortage of suffering in this world. … So look in any direction, and you will find someone
whose pain is seeming too heavy to bear and whose heartache seems never, apparently, to end.
○ Join the great Physician of lifting the load from those who are burdened and relieving the pain of
those who are distraught.
● May we bring to the altar more pain in his suffering
