In order to add more color and interesting features to the promotional video Ms. Miller and I decided to
take photos of various ensembles. The techniques or style of photography is called “flat lay”
photography in which the products or clothes are laid flat on a surface and photos are taken of them
from a bird’s-eye view.
The photos were taken with an iPhone and edited using the Google Snapseed image editing software. All
images are original and are not copyrighted or from another source.
• Using the ‘selection’ tool to increase brightness and contrast of the image in order to make it
more vivid
• Using the ‘selection’ tool to decrease the structure in rough areas to make it smoother
• Using the ‘rotate’ to rotate the image and
• Using the ‘crop’ to cut out excess and to scale the image
• Using the ‘details’ tool which includes ‘sharpening’ and ‘structure’ to make the image sharper
• Using the ‘text’ tool to add the company name and a caption
• Using the ‘frame’ tool to add a border
• Saving the image as a copy to export it for use

Video
The promotional video includes multiple elements of multiple media. The use of video clips, still frames,
and music make the video more dynamic than a simple slideshow or photos. The video was filmed using
an iPhone camera with additional lenses.
The promotional video was created using Adobe Premiere Rush CC software. The videos used were
stored in a Google Drive from the smartphone and were then downloaded to the PC to be added to the
project panel.
• Using the ‘Color’ tool a filter labeled ‘film’ is added to video clips
• Created a preset for a video clip
• Clips are trimmed in order to meet the 1-minute duration requirement
• Using the ‘Transform’ tool the clips were rotated, cropped, and scaled
• Layering multiple videos/images on to a black background allowed for two or more clips to play
at once on screen to add dimension
• Using the ‘Audio’ tool all video clips were muted
• Music is added from Bensound Royalty Free Music
• Using the ‘Title’ tool text is added to various clips
Filming techniques
• Video was filmed using a Case Logic Photography Kit (includes a tripod, led lighting, and lenses)
The Adobe software does not offer a means to do different pans or motions with video clips. To
compensate for this, I made the various pans by manually operating the camera when filming. Also, the
transitions in the software did not last for as long of a time as I wanted for the video, so I filmed a black
screen to add in for transitions and trimmed its time down to fit. This clip was also used as the
background for frames in which other clips or images were layered.
• Pan- the camera moves from side to side on a fixed horizontal axis.
• Zoom- a shot in which the change of focal length in a camera’s lens gives the impression of
approaching or moving away from the subject.
• Long or Extreme Long- a shot made from sufficient distance to show a landscape, a building, a
large interior, etc.
• Close-up- a detailed view of a person or object.
