medicines/boxes (preferably empty) and empty
prescription bottles with labels still on.
- Pupils will sort out the medicines as to OCT and
prescription medicines and put it in the proper box.

- Ask:
How many empty bottles of medicines do you have?
What do you think is in those bottles?
Where can you get medicine?
Why do people take medicine?
We will check later on the medicines if you place it in
the correct boxes.

OTC MEDICINES AND PRESCRIPTION MEDICINES
Medicine is a legal drug used to treat an ailment or
illness.
2 Types of Medicines:
1. Over-the-counter drugs (OTC drugs) are legal
drugs that anyone can buy at places like the
supermarket or the drugstore. They are safe and
effective when used without a physicians’ care.
Aspirin, antacids, and cough medicine are some kinds
of OTC drugs. Labels on OTC drugs give important
information.
Ex. Ibuprofen, paracetamol, Benadryl, antihistamines,
antacids
2. Prescription drugs are legal drugs that can only be
ordered by a doctor or a dentist. Only a licensed
pharmacist can sell prescription drugs.
Ex. Antibiotics, Antidepressants, Antidiabetic,
Antihypertensive
