Exterior Wall System Components (FWFX):

This category covers components for exterior wall systems, such
as air barriers, air-barrier systems, water-resistive barriers,
insulation, substrates, etc., designated for use in specific
assemblies covered under Exterior Wall Systems (FWFO).
Information concerning the exterior wall assembly details is
described in the individual systems. Air barriers are installed for
the purpose of controlling unintended movement of air into and
out of a building envelope. Water-resistive barriers are installed
for the purpose of resisting bulk water penetration and wind-
driven rain that penetrates the exterior cladding from intruding
into the wall assembly.

Exterior non-load-bearing wall assemblies incorporating these

components are investigated to ANSI/NFPA 285, "Standard Fire
Test Method for Evaluation of Fire Propagation Characteristics
of Exterior Non-Load-Bearing Wall Assemblies Containing
PRODUCT APPLICATION Combustible Components," as required by the "International

as tested. Individual components are not intended to be
interchanged between assemblies, but rather are designated for
use in a specific design in order that the performance of the
system may be achieved. Consequently, the substitution or
elimination of components required in a system should not be
made unless specifically permitted in the individual system or in
these general guidelines.

Numbered items refer to the descriptive text below each

drawing. Individual components of a proprietary nature, or over
which it is necessary to exercise control at the manufacturing
location, are certified under the Certification and Follow-Up
Service of UL. Those materials identified by an "*" in the system
description text are eligible to be produced under the Follow-Up
Service Program of UL. Information identifying such materials
and the certified companies authorized to provide the materials
are covered under Exterior Wall System Components (FWFX).
Each certified product bears the label or other identification of
UL from which it may be determined that a product is suitable
for use as a material in a particular assembly or assemblies.

Authorities Having Jurisdiction should be consulted before

installation as to the particular requirements covering the
installation and use of these systems.

Exterior Wall Coverings Certified as to lgnitibility (FWFM):

This category covers combustible exterior wall coverings and
assemblies investigated to ANSI/NFPA 268, "Standard Test
Method for Determining lgnitibility of Exterior Wall Assemblies
Using a Radiant Heat Energy Source," as required by the
"International Building Code" (IBC), ANSI/NFPA 5000, "Building
Construction and Safety Code," and other governing Codes of
various countries and regions.

ANSI/NFPA 268 is used to investigate the propensity of ignition

of an exterior wall covering or assembly where subjected to a
minimum radiant heat flux of 12.5 kW/m2 (1.10 Btu/ft2-sec)
during a 20-minute test period. This test method is not intended
to investigate the fire resistance of the wall system, nor the
effect of fires originating within the building or within the
exterior wall system.

Where assemblies are covered under this category, they are

complete assemblies as detailed in the individual certifications.
Individual components are not intended to be interchanged

It should be noted that the IBC, ANSI/NFPA 5000 and other

regulatory Codes provide specific details concerning coverings
that are exempted from being tested to ANSI/NFPA 268.

Authorities Having Jurisdiction should be consulted before

installation as to the particular requirements covering the
installation and use of these systems.

Building Units (BLBT):

This category covers building units, consisting of proprietary
mixes of organic and/or inorganic materials formed into panels,
blocks, boards, planks, slabs, or sheets fabricated into various
sizes, thicknesses and shapes, certified as to surface-burning
characteristics.

Some building units are provided with facings or are composites

of several materials which may affect the contribution of
combustibles under fire conditions. This effect is determined by
testing the sample with a longitudinal butt joint, constructed by
slitting the facing or by using a factory or field joint (if
applicable).

For building units consisting of an interior core material faced

on both surfaces, the certification of the product includes the
surface-burning characteristics of the core material in addition
to the surface-burning characteristics of the finished product.

The certifications are confined to the materials themselves and

do not pertain to the structures in which the materials may be

1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report describes a fire performance evaluation conducted for Roof Care Co. LLC, in
accordance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 268, 2017 Edition, Standard Test
Method for Determining lgnitibility ofExterior Wall Assemblies Using a Radiant Heat Energy Source.
Testing was conducted at the Fire Technology Department of Southwest Research Institute (SwRI),
located in San Antonio, Texas.
This test method should be used to measure and describe the properties of materials, products,
or assemblies in response to heat and flame under controlled laboratory conditions and should not be
used to describe or appraise the fire hazard or fire risk of materials, products, or assemblies under actual
fire conditions. However, results of this test may be used as elements of a fire risk assessment which
takes into account all the factors that are pertinent to an assessment of the fire hazard of a particular end
use.
This report describes the testing of the assembly tested and the results obtained. The results
presented in this report apply specifically to the material tested, in the manner tested, and not to the
entire production of these or similar materials, nor to the performance when used in combination with
other materials.
2.0 SAMPLE DESCRIPTION
SwRI received two shipments of materials from Roof Care Co. LLC. Three metal wall frames
with noncombustible substrate were constructed by SwRI personnel for this project. The walls were
assembled in accordance with Roof Care Co. LLC installation instructions using the materials described
in Table 1, and the final assembly drawings from the instructions can be found in Appendix C.
On September 5-7, 2017, Mr. David Hintz, representing Underwriters Laboratories, was present
at SwRI to witness the construction of the wall assemblies. The panels were conditioned in accordance
with the standard and are described below in Table 2.

TEST SETUP
A calibration test was perfonned to establish the distance from the radiant panel to the
calibration panel in order to maintain an average heat flux of 12.5 kW/m2 ± 5% for a 20 min period, as
well as to verify that the average surface temperature of the radiant panel was 1600° F ± 50 °F. The
distance required to maintain the specified heat flux was measured to be 33 in. The heat flux was
obtained by averaging the four heat flux meters located at the comers of the central square foot of the
calibration panel. The heat flux at the center of the calibration panel shall not exceed 15 kW/m2 or be
less than 12.5 kW/m2 • During both the calibration and the test, a side-mounted reference heat flux meter
was located 4.0 in. from the vertical edge of the test specimen to the centerline of the gauge.
RESULTS
During the 20-min test period, none of the panel assemblies had sustained flaming for a period
greater than 5 s which meets the acceptance criteria stated in NFPA 268. Graphical data and visual
observations can be found in Appendix A. Photographic documentation is presented in Appendix B.

TEST RECORD NO. 1

GENERAL:

Test results relate only to the items tested.

EXAMINATION OF MATERIALS

The materials used in this investigation were produced under the

observation of a representative of UL, in a ready-to-use form. The
composition of the finished material is of proprietary nature. Data on
the composition is on file at UL for use in the Follow-Up Service Program.

Various physical and chemical tests were conducted on the components

and finished products. The results developed from these tests were
employed in establishing specifications for use in the factory Follow-Up
Service Program.

SURFACE BURNING CHARACTERISTICS:

SAMPLES

Each test sample consisted of three 8 by 2 ft wide boards butted

end-to-end to form the required 24 ft. long surface.

Due to the rigidity of the test samples, supplementary means of

support was not required.

For each test a piece of 1 ft long by 22 in. wide by 1/16 in. thick
uncoated steel plate was placed at the fire end of the tunnel furnace
"upstream" from the gas burners to complete the 25 ft chamber length.

The test samples were allowed to condition at a temperature of 73

±4°F and a relative humidity of 50±5 percent prior to testing.

METHOD

The tests were conducted in accordance with Standard ANSI/UL723,

Tenth Edition, dated September 10, 2008 with revisions through August 12,
2013, "Test for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials",
(ASTM E84).

RESULTS

Data on flame spread and smoke developed appears in the following

tabulations. Graphs of flame spread versus time and smoke developed
versus time are also provided as part of the Test Record.

Flame Spread Index

The maximum distance the flame spreads along the length of the
sample from the end of the igniting flame is determined by observation.

The Flame Spread Index (FSI) of the material is determined by

rounding the Calculated Flame Spread (CFS) as described in UL 723. The
CFS is derived by calculating the area under the flame spread distance
(ft) versus time (min) curve, ignoring any flame front recession, and
using one of the calculation methods as described below.

1. If the total area (AT) is less than or equal to 97.5 min-ft, the
CFS shall be 0.515 times the total area (FSI=0.515 AT).

2. If the total area (AT) is greater than 97.5 min-ft, the CFS is to
be 4900 divided by 195 minus the total area (FSI=4900/(195-AT)).

Smoke Developed Index

The smoke Developed Index is determined by rounding the Calculated

Smoke Developed (CSD) as described in UL 723. The CSD is determined by
the output of a photoelectric circuit operating across the furnace flue
pipe. A curve is developed by plotting values of light absorption
(decrease in cell output) against time. The CSD is derived by expressing
the net area under the curve for this material as a percentage of the net
area under the curve for untreated red oak.

The CSD is expressed as:

CSD=(AM/Aro)x100

Where:

CSD=Calculated Smoke Developed

AM= The area under the curve for the test material

Aro= The area under the curve for untreated red oak

1.0 l1'TRODUCTI01'

The objective of this test program was to perfonn a fire perfonnance evaluation for Green
Products Imdustries WLL, located in Kingdom of Bahrain. The material was identified by the Client
as SWP. The material was tested in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
Standard 259, Standard Test Method for Potential Heat of Building Materials, 2013 Edition. Testing
was conducted on Janua1y 2 and 3, 2018, at Southwest Research Institute's (SwRI) Fire Technology
Department, located in San Antonio, Texas.

This test method is intended to measure and describe the properties of matetials, products, or
assemblies in response to heat and flame tmder controlled laborato1y conditions and should not be used
to describe or appraise the fire hazard or fire risk of materials, products, or assemblies under actual fire
conditions. However, results of this test may be used as elements of a fire risk assessment which takes
into account all of the factors which are pertinent to an assessment of the fire hazard of a particular end
use. The results apply specifically to the specimens tested, in the manner tested, and not to similar
materials, nor to the perfonnance when used in combination with other materials.

2.0 TEST PROCEDURE

The gross and net calorific potential of materials are detennined as described in NFPA 259-13.
The apparatuses, specimen preparation, and test protocol are described in detail in this standard. There
are two test procedures used in this standard to detennine the potential heat of a material.

The first procedure is the oxygen bomb calorimeter test procedure. For this test, a specimen
weighing nominally 1.0 g ± 0.9 g is placed in a metal crucible, which is then placed in a stainless steel
bomb. If necessary, benzoic acid with a heat of combustion of 11,373 Btu/lb is used as a combustion
promoter. The sample is tested in general accordance with ASTM D5865-07a, Test Method for Gross
Calorific Value of Coal and Coke (The NFPA 259-13 references ASTM D3286, Standard Test Method
for Gross Calorific Value of Coal and Coke by the Isoperibol Bomb Calorimeter, but this standard was
withdrawn and replaced by ASTM D5865). This procedure yields a gross heat of combustion. Two
tests are conducted for repeatability. If the first two tests do not agree to within 10%, a third test is
pe1fonned.

The second test procedure, the electric muffle fomace test procedure, requires a test specimen
cut in the shape of a rectangular ptism measuring 13 x 19 x 64 mm 0,V x L x H) height to be placed on
the wire specimen holder, which is placed in the specimen container. The specimen container has a cap
on one end and a hole on the other end, which allows fresh air to circulate around the test sample to
promote complete combustion. The test sample is exposed to a temperature of 750 °C ± 10 °C for 2 hr
with a regulated airflow supplied at 47 cm3/s referenced to 20 °C and 101 kPa, i.e., standard temperature

Green Products Imdustries \VLL 2 SwRI Project No. 01.23236.18.303

and pressure. After 2 hr, the test sample is removed from the furnace and placed in a desiccator to cool.
Once the specimen has cooled to room temperature, the mass is measured.

If the mass of the residue remaining after the electric muffle furnace test procedme is not more
than 5% of the initial mass of the test specimen, then the gross heat of combustion measured in the
oxygen bomb calorimeter test procedure is considered to be the potential heat of the matedal tested.

If the mass of the residue is greater than 5% of the initial mass of the test specimen, then the
residue must be tested according to the oxygen bomb calorimeter test procedure. Two tests must be
perfonned, and if the results differ by more than 10%, a third test is perfonned. The potential heat of
the material is the difference between the gross heat of combustion measured in the first test procedure
and the gross heat of combustion of the residue (as defined inNFPA 259) from the second procedure.

The parameters measured are as follows:

Gross Heat of Combustion (Qgr) -The amount ofheat released by the complete combustion of
a unit ofmass ofthe material, coffected for the heats offonnation ofH2N03 and H2S04,
and for the heat ofcombustion ofthe firing wire and combustion promoter (if required).
The gross calorific potential has a different value when combustion occurs in a constant
pressure environment from that obtained in a constant volume environment. Tests are
performed in a constant volume.
Potential Heat (Qp) - The difference between the gJoss heat of combustion per unit mass of a
representative specimen of the material and the heat of combustion per unit mass of
any residue remaining after exposure of a representative specimen of the material to a
defined heat source, i.e., muffle furnace, using combustion calorimetric techniques.

Two oxygen bomb test nms were perfonned, and the average gross heat of combustion was
calculated. The percent difference was greater than 10%, so a third test was nm in accordance with the
standard. The material residues from the electric muffle fumace test mns were greater than 5%; thus, a
third residue test was nm in the bomb calorimeter. The potential heat of combustion was calculated
according to the following equation:
P=G-cR
given P is the potential heat of combustion, G is the gross heat of combustion, as calculated by bomb
testing of the raw material, c is the ratio of the weight of the residue to the weight of the initial sample
from the muffle fumace exposure, and R is the gross heat of combustion of the residue. We find the
potential heat of combustion of SWP to be3540 Btu/lb.

Executive Summary

Green products industries have identified opportunity to develop high end thermal insulation and water proofing
solution for roof wall and basements in Bahrain and in the Middle East with backward integration of manufacturing
green polyurethane foam and environmental friendly water proofing system. In order to execute the project, GPI
Bahrain obtained permissions from ministry of commerce and environment to manufacture green products in Bahrain.

Our research focused on developing technologies that improve the energy efficiency and environmental compatibility
of residential and commercial buildings two decades ago in Middle East when we received first indication that WATER
AND ENERGY was going to be a critical issue to be addressed, if we want to save our next generation.

There were several alarming reports coming out from various organizations across the world, working in the same
fields and it inspired us to focus on this based on the experience we have in the waterproofing industry. We have made
considerable progress in our research and we feel that we are very close to concluding ONE STOP SHOP concept for
anyone who is constructing a new building or even retrofitting of an existing building.

Once we are up and running, we will initiate discussions for co-operation and assistance from oak ridge national
laboratory (ORNL) in US who owns a dedicated research facility for such developments and used some of their
experience in developing technologies with perfect cost:result ratio guaranteeing minimum 60% saving on air
conditioning energy cost both for existing and new buildings in GCC region.

We also feel that we need to make some investments in setting up a world class research facility in the state of
Bahrain with large scale climate simulator (LSCS) Rotabale Guarded Hot Box (RGHB), Roof Thermal Research
Apparatus (RTRA, and Envelope System Research Apparatus (ESRA) and work with known software such as WUFI
support such initiative in our facility.

Clearly our long term goal is to be the LEADERS in developing energy efficient BEP program/solution for the
construction industry which benefit our future generation and save millions of dollars which is being wasted in the
region.
Our Mission & Our Vision

“SAVE ENERGY FOR A BETTER TOMORROW”

Components which we look to address

• Wall – reaction injection moulded panels for cladding.

• Roof – spray applied polyurethane foam or insulated roof tiles.
• Window – double or triple glazed windows with super spacer for extra efficiency.

1. Wall
RIM produced wall panels is a unique approach developed in USA and we manufacture under license from our partners
in Bahrain. Our initial approach was with EIFS (External Insulation Finishing System) but eventually after we decided to
do IIFS (Internal Insulation Finishing System).

The major advantages of RIM system are:

• Long lasting
• Cost effective
• Fast application

Method of insulation and detailing etc. will be given special attention to ensure they do not cause any concern for the
longevity of the system.

Most of the technical presentation in the past was claiming 35-40% savings on air conditioning cost where as our actual
test house reports clearly indicate 56% savings if the roof and wall are insulated without thermal bridges etc. We do
have 1 year track record of such test available for any reference. Currently our research is focused on optimization of
the cost to make it as competitive as possible and increase the ROI (Return on Investment). We plan have 3 test houses
in Bahrain and we will have all records available for references to anyone who is interested, particularly all engineering
community in state of Bahrain and GCC states. We will also be using such practical test data to convince authorities to
support our initiatives for energy conservation which will benefit ministry of electricity immensely.

2. ROOF
30 years ago; we have brought SPF (Spray applied PU foam) from Baxenden chemicals in UK to address a key issue in
waterproofing of pre-cast slab roof in Bahrain. Ministry of housing in Bahrain have tried several types of roofing system
for their low-cost housing and majority of them have prematurely failed for several reasons. One of the main causes was
that they were not able to incorporate an efficient thermal insulation in to the roofing system and therefore after several
round of discussions we have won the contract for 250 houses to be done with our proposed system in 1985. We have
been tracking the system in detail and found they are performing much better than any other system and today ministry
do not approve anything other than such systems. During the last 30 years we have made several experiments with the
system and fine-tuned PU roof systems which is a perfect system for both waterproofing and thermal insulation
requirement of both flat and pitch roof. PU foam spray applied roof will meet any international standard in roofing
industry and to us it is the BEST system which will last the LIFE of the building. Our current efforts is to upgrade the
system further incorporating ILD technology (International Leak Detectors) so that monitoring of the system is made
easier and it can also help us to differentiate between us and our competitors.
3. WINDOW
We are still working on different technology to come up with 40-60% savings on windows. Triple glazing and argon gas
filling etc. are new technology to look at for such results. However, a coating type of product would be useful for existing
windows and achieve targeted savings.

Who We Sell To

RIM Insulated wall panel Equipment

Reaction Injection Molding (RIM) produces panels

that are dimensionally stable, chemically resistant,
physically tough, and wear resistant. This process
is an excellent choice for Polyurethane and
polyisocyanurate composite wall panels .The
process takes its name from a chemical reaction
that occurs within the mold tool. The plastics used
are two components that produce the
polyisocyanurate are mixed just prior to injection
into the tool. With the low viscosity and low
injection pressures, large, complex panels can be
produced economically

Insulated wall & Ceiling Panel Laminator

Our various series of wall and roof panels are filled
with non-CFC polyisocyanurate foam. The panels
are manufactured in a uniform pressure laminating
process that bonds composite board facings to
precured insulating rigid foam cores. The process
uses structural urethane adhesives applied under
heat and pressure to form an integral bond
between boards and foam. Cores are inspected at
the factory for uniform density and cell structure,
and then are cut by a laser guided saw to exact
tolerances. This extra care ensures premium
quality flat cores, suitable for use with embossed
or smooth facings.

The smart wall insulated panels are ideal for

projects with a focus on energy efficiency and
speed of construction. It can be easily fixed on wall
and ceilings.
