Ambedkar Jayanti

Ambedkar Jayanti is also well-known as Bhim Jayanti. It is an annual commemoration which has
been observed every year on 14th April to celebrate the birthday of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. Dr.
Bimrao Ambedkar is known as the Father of Indian Constitution. In 1891, he was born to Ramji
and Bhimabai Ambedkar, in a Mahar family. Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar contributed a lot in the
Untouchable movement in India and his contributions towards the nation are unforgettable as a
jurist, philosopher, anthropologist, politician, and social reformer.

As we all know that Bhimrao Ambedkar was born in a Dalit family, he was grown with the
observance of difficulties faced by Dalits of the nation. During his school time, he and other Dalit
students were discriminated from other children and less attention was paid to them. Drinking
water and other facilities were only provided to them by other higher caste students from a
certain height so that they could not touch it. He had four siblings and among all of them, only
he had passed examinations and went for higher studies. He had attended three universities
Columbia University, University of Mumbai, and London School of Economics. He had also
contributed to the formation of the country’s central banking organization, the Reserve Bank of
India. He had joined the Dalit Buddhist Movement in the country. He was supported by about
half a million Dalits in this movement. They were converted into Neo-Buddhism or Navayana
Buddhism. This name was suggested by Dr. B R Ambedkar as a re-interpretation of Buddhism. He
wrote a book on Dalit Buddhist which is named as The Buddha and His Dhamma. After the
completion of this book, Dr. B R Ambedkar died within three days.
He was the first Law Minister after the independence of India, at that time, he was serving as the
Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee too. He had contributed a lot during his tenure
as a Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee with the introduction of various policies.
He had given an equal opportunity to every representative so that they could put their views in
front of everyone. The tenure of this designation was about two and a half year.
Before independence, he had opposed the caste system in the nation to make the life of Dalits a
better one. For the development of the country, he advocated for equality among every citizen
of the country.
The Ambedkar Jayanti has been celebrated throughout the country with immense pleasure and
enthusiasm to pay homage to Dr. B R Ambedkar for his tremendous contributions in building the
nation and its constitution. At the Parliament of India, every year there is an arrangement of a
special event on this day. There are a large number of activities that are performed for the
celebration of this day such as painting, dance, essay writing, debate, and various sports
activities.
Last year, Mr. Chandrakant Patil has celebrated this day as a festival with various singers. The
celebration was performed at Shivaji Stadium with various songs describing the works and
contributions of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar towards the development of the society and nation. The
entry to this event was free to the local residents of the district and this event was broadcasted
throughout the country. According to Mr. Chandrakant Patil, a large and magnificent picture of
Dada Saheb was prepared and rotated in most of the areas of the district. Through this chariot,
the people were explained with the various works and contributions of Dada Saheb. The thoughts
of Dada Saheb were delivered to the villagers with this chariot.
With the inspiration of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Shri Chandrakant Patil has also introduced a lot

farmers with loan waiver scheme and irrigation facilities. Additionally, he has also worked for the
