How to debate:

 Choose your battles

 Be prepared
 Be well researched and know what you are saying.
 Get them emotional
 Call out non-arguments- arguing from authority, etc.
 Pushing for specifics.
 Know your arguments through and through and don’t get caught up in generalized statements.
 Have snuck premises, meaning hide meaning in your words and have your opennts agree to
things they normally wouldn’t.
 Bring abstract to concrete, when they mention ideas or ideals, meet them with reality.
 Emphasize the points in which you would agree with your opponent
 Realize what’s going on before it is too late- tone of voice and word choice, “so you’re saying…”
trap.- “well actually what I was saying is…”.
 Assuming the sale.
 Assume a relaxed posture
 Pause after each question
 Slow it down, be in control of the frame.
 Don’t strawman’s the other person’s ideas.
 You need to understand and be understood
 Show them that they are already agreeing with you.
