INTERACTIVE LEARNING ASSIGNMENT (ILA)

Brand Strategy (MKTG 679)

Overview
Recent advances in technology allow learning to be much more interactive, experiential, engaging and
fun. In an effort to take advantage of these technological tools, the Interactive Learning Assignment
(ILA) gives you the freedom to choose from a variety of topics, tools and approaches in order to shape
your learning to some extent. With a partner or as an individual, select one of the following
assignments or come up with an original idea. Below are several that you might consider.

You will be evaluated on the content you develop, your unique insights, and, of course, your creativity
and innovativeness. You will then present your ILA in a “Ten Ten Talk” – no more than 10 slides in
approximately 10 minutes – via VoiceThread or Flip Grid.

ILA Ideas
1. Watch 3-5 Ted Talks by branding experts and summarize their lessons. Relate the Ted Talks to class
topics.
2. Follow 3-4 of the top marketing blogs or podcasts over the course of the next two weeks. What are
the hot topics? Do you agree/disagree with the discussion? How do the topics relate to our course
topics?
3. Attend or view one or more VCU Brandcenter Friday Forums.
4. Create a blog or keep a daily online interactive journal about a branding topic. For example, you
might discuss your personal experiences/relationship with a brand over the course of two weeks or
so.
5. Create a brief presentation or video of a branding topic using Camtasia, Prezi, Slide Share, Movie
Maker or some other interactive device. Be sure to integrate images, ads, or video clips to make
your points.
6. Conduct interviews with brand experts and/or consumers about some marketing phenomenon or
topic (e.g., social media, B2B branding, experiential marketing, storytelling in advertising, branding
with a social purpose, guerilla marketing, etc.). Create a video blog that summarizes your findings.
7. Create a Ted Talk or YouTube video on a particular marketing phenomenon.

ILA Next Steps

why you believe it fits with our Marketing Management course objectives, and d) specific
deliverables.
