ADJECTIVES

(Words that describe Nouns)

Explanation:An Adjective is a word used with a noun to tell


somethingy more about the Noun. It is describing word. It describes
the person or thing which the noun name. Describing words are used
to describe people, places, animal or thing (naming words) describing
words make sentence more interesting to read.
e. g. This is a joker. Boring
This is a funny and silly joker. Interesting
This is a sandwich. Boring
This is a tasty and delicious sandwich.

Note:An Adjective usually comes before the noun it describes. But
sometimes the adjective comes after the Noun.

HOW TO FIND THE ADJECTIVE
To find the adjective we ask the following questions :
 What kind of?
 How many? Or how much?
 Which?

See the following:

Example 1
The black bird is flying.
Noun: bird
Question: what kind of?
Answer: black
The adjective is “black “

Example 2
We went library several times.
Noun: library
Question: how many times?
Answer: several
The adjective is “several”

Example 3
That boy is walking
Noun: boy
Question: which noy?
Answer: that
The adjective is “that”

COMPARISON OF ADJECTIVES
(degree)
Explanation: Adjectives have three degrees of comparison. .
(a) The positive Degree is the simple form of
the Adjective.
(b) The Comparative Degree is used to
compare two things. It is formed:
i) by adding “-er” to the positive ; or,
ii) by adding the word “more “to the
positive.
(c) The Superlative Degree is used to
compare more than two things. It is
formed: i) by adding “-
est” to the Positive ; or ii) by
adding the word “most” to the positive.
(Note: there are exceptions to this. See further for
example)
