Product Description

Fall arrest Personal Fall Protective Equipment (PFPE) is used to arrest a worker in the event of a fall and limit
forces applied to the worker and the point of anchorage. A PFPE fall arrest system comprises of a body support
element (fall arrest full body harness), a connecting element (fall arrest lanyard with built in energy absorber),
a connector (karabiner/hook) and an anchorage (lifeline/anchor). The ManSafe ® Sealed SRLs are intended to
be used as a connecting element within a personal fall arrest system. They include a self-locking function and
automatically extends and retracts providing the user with freedom of movement over a large working area.

Key Features

 The Full Contact™ locking mechanism is constantly moving therefore cannot freeze, hang up or
corrode. This ensures failsafe performance that is verified by the audible clicking noise.
 All critical components are sealed to prevent corrosion. Independently certified to Ingress Protection
(IP)69K
 The integral energy absorber absorbs energy at a Constant Force®.
 All internal components are manufactured from materials with high corrosion resistant properties.
 Ball bearings ensure smooth running of the drum mechanism.
 The modular design allows for quick and easy inspection and repair ensuring minimal time out of
operation.
 All ManSafe® SRL’s are individually serial numbered to ensure full traceability.
 All Sealed SRL’s meet ATEX assessment EN13463-1:2001 & EN13463-5:2003 category
 Designed to be accessed from an offshore vessel (moving platform) with our unique Type 2 SRL.
 Gateless load indicating eyelet for user attachment, minimising exposed moving parts and failure.
 Unique rigid style attachment point, which fits onto 60 x 60 mm box section and is captivated in place
using M12 fixings.

General Information

 Before each use ensure that a clicking sound can be heard when the lifeline is extracted and
retracted.
 Ensure that the device locks up when the lifeline is pulled sharply. This indicates that the locking
mechanism is functioning correctly.
 Check the load indicator on the eyelet – a clearly visible red band indicates that the unit has been
loaded and requires removal from service, inspection and component replacement where required.
 Ensure that the SRL is only used for overhead applications. The SRL should not be used at an angle
greater than 30º from the vertical. Never use the SRL for horizontal applications.
 Temperature range -40ºC (-40ºF) to 54ºC (130ºF).
 Always ensure that the SRL is attached to an anchorage point capable of sustaining minimum
anchorage strength of 12 kN (1200Kg) or 5000lbs
 Always be aware of sharp edges, or obstacles that prevent the correct orientation of the lifeline when
connecting the SRL to the anchorage point.
 The SRL is a single user device. Only one user should be attached to the SRL at any one time.
 The maximum user mass (including tools) must not exceed 140 kg.
 The SRL requires an annual audible, visual and tactile inspection – this has been devised to enable
complete field maintainability by following the documented Latchways ManSafe Sealed SRL
Instructions for periodic examination, repair and rectification.
 All connectors must conform to EN362:2004 Personal protective equipment against falls from a

Type 1 vs Type 2 SRL

A conventional Sealed SRL (Type 1) is typically specified for use in applications where a user is connecting to
the SRL from a fixed platform, for example upper ladders found on wind turbine transition pieces’ (TPs).

A Type 2 SRL which has been uniquely designed, should be specified for use in applications where a user is
transferring from a moving platform, such as a vessel, for example for access to lower ladders found on wind
turbine TP’s.

The Type 2 SRL has been specifically designed to increase the required activation speed, thus taking into
account a nominal level of movement due to the actions of ocean swell (found to work up to a maximum wave
height of 1.5 metres, other factors may affect lock on). This enables a user to safely attach to the SRL whilst
remaining on the moving platform before transferring onto the TP boat landing ladder.

All sealed SRLs, independent of lifeline length or type, meet the maximum arrest distance as defined in
EN360:2002 of 1400 mm. This parameter is 100% measured and recorded within the production process. An
