CIRCUIT DIAGRAM:

PROCEDURE:

1. Circuit connections are given as shown in circuit diagram.

2. Power supply is given to the circuit by closing TPSTS and the motor is started using
star-delta starter.
3. At no load condition, Line Voltage, Line Current, Input Power and speed are noted
4. Then load is added to the machine through brake drum in step by step manner and
note down the corresponding meter readings in each step and continue the same till
the line current ammeter reads rated current.
5. Then the load is released and the supply is disconnected from the circuit.

MODEL GRAPH:
MODEL CALCULATION:

Reading No.:- 2

Torque T = (3.3) x 9.81 x 0.128

= 4.5 Nm

O/P Power = 2 x 3.14 x1482 x 4.5/ 60

= 693W

% Efficiency = (693/1184) x 100

= 58.5 %

P.F = 1184/ √3 x 230 x 1.6

= 0.57

FINDINGS:

 The synchronous speed is 1500 RPM.

 At no load the speed is found closer to synchronous speed.

 Torque increases with slip.

 Power factor increases with load current and at no load motor current is
negligible.

 Efficiency and output power is zero at load.

 When frequency is reduced speed decreases.

INFERENCE:

 The synchronous speed is always found to be higher than the running speed to
prevent magnetic locking of the motor.

 Since the starting torque is very low, it can't be used for applications which
involves pulling heavy load.

 As 3 phase supply is readily available anywhere, these motors have vast

applications such as in Rolling mills, Chimney's at power plants.

 Zero Efficiency and output power at no load because there are more losses at no
load including rotational, cre , copper losses.

 RESULT:

Thus the characteristics of the three phase induction motor at different frequencies
was studied and graph was plotted.
