Reflection on Empowerment
Empowerment, according to Merriam-Webster, is defined as the act or action of
empowering someone or something or the granting of the power, right, or authority to perform
various acts or duties. According to Cambridge Dictionary, however, empowerment is defined as
the process of gaining freedom and power to do what you want or to control what happens to you.
In my own understanding based on the given definitions herein, empowerment is a type of intrinsic
feeling that we possess when we are motivated in life. Motivated in doing certain tasks, motivated
to the point that we, ourselves, have the initiative to actually start or think of a task that would help
us advance in our standing in life, it would help us progress to become a better human being for
both ourselves and the people around us.
This kind of feeling gives us the will to do something and it can affect our overall
performance when a certain task is given to us. If we feel empowered, then we produce better
output, we become more efficient in our daily tasks and over-all we feel great about ourselves
knowing that we have control over our daily routine. With that being said, how do we attain the
feeling of empowerment? There are certain ways to acquire such feeling. Maybe we can do certain
tasks that we find pleasing. Maybe we could talk to someone we always wanted to talk to for our
body to produce neurochemicals like dopamine, oxytocin, etc. However, there is this one thing
that we can do to surely possess this feeling, and that is to pray and worship God. When we pray,
we are given the strength to do the things that need to be done, we are empowered by the grace of
our Lord. “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me” – Philippians 4:13
Leader is defined as the one in the charge, the person who convinces other people to follow
and a great leader inspires confidence in other people and moves them to action. An example of a
good leader is someone who, instead of telling someone what to do, he teaches his members on
how to do a certain task and he, the leader himself, gets involve with whatever the members are
doing. A good leader works side by side with his members unlike other people who are considered
leaders but are not doing anything and they disseminate the tasks to his members while the leader
himself is enjoying himself in doing nothing.
A modest or low view of one's own importance or humility for short. Every person should
always be humble despite reaching great achievements in life. Even if you reach the top, you
should never forget where you came from because if you did, you’ll never appreciate what you
have now and you’d take it for granted.
Moderation is the avoidance of excess or extremes. Considering that too much of
something can be dangerous, we must take into account that whatever we do in life or whatever
we eat in life, must be all in moderation for us to avoid sin and also preserve the safety of our life.
One of the deadly sins is gluttony which is habitual greed or excess in eating. This is actually one
good example. We can eat in moderation but eat too much, we commit a sin. Same with other
things in life, everything must be in moderation.
