UDL:
With this lesson students are getting a visual and verbal idea of the lesson so they can fully understand
it. Everyone learns differently and these activities allows for everyone to learn the way they want to.
For students who cannot hear well, the video comes with closed captioning. The activities I created, I
created for everyone to be engaged and accessible for everyone.

Lesson idea implementation:

The students will be starting a new unit about weather and weather patterns, this lesson will take
about a week. The lesson will be introduced with a short video about weather that I have created.
After the video, we will have a class discussion on different types of weather and what weather
correlates with the seasons. After our discussion is over I will have an activity to do as a class. I will
have a large cloud on iPads for each child with different types of weather hidden behind it. The four
seasons will be listed next to the cloud. Students will pull a type of weather from behind the cloud and
classify the weather along with the season. For example; snow goes to winter. I will have students
complete this activity individually on their iPads so I can measure how well they are doing. After each
student is completed we will do it together on the board. This activity will be done on a Friday. I will
have my students bring home a weather journal. Over the weekend they will record the weather on
Saturday. They will need to draw a picture of the weather, what season it is, the temperature, what
clothes they will need to wear outside, and they will need to write a short passage about the weather. I
will assign each child a specific weather and season to make another journal entry for Sunday, for
example; Suzie will be assigned rain in the spring. When they bring their journals back on Monday
this will help me assess who understands and who does not. I will have each student share one of their
journal entries to the class, then I will make a book of every ones journal entry so students can go
back and look at their peers entries to help study and learn more. To conclude this lesson, I will have
each child write about their favorite weather and season and their least favorite. I will assess children

on this also. They will get feedback on their stories. To extend this lesson we can start talking about
the water cycle, or use the topic of weather to do math.

Importance of technology:
Using a multimedia authoring tool is critical to this lesson. I begin the lesson using technology and I
end the lesson with technology. I used the software iMovie to create my own movie for this lesson.
Using technology makes the lesson more engaging and fun. I could not have completed this lesson
without technology. Not only did I use iMovie, I used online activities for this lesson.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
The lesson I created does not infringe on the privacy of any student because I do not have any
students in my video nor am I posting their work anywhere. If I did have a student in my video I
would need to make sure they are allowed to be filmed with their parents. I also would not post it
where random people could see.

Reflective Practice:
After designing this lesson idea, I feel like the activities that I created are interesting and fun for my
students. Students were able to have fun while learning. To further extend this lesson I could go more
in depth with the water cycle, or tie weather into what we are doing in math. I could have created
more activities online for the students to do for more practice.
