Hello Elizabeth,

We hope you had a great experience presenting at USU's Student Research

Symposium. Here is judging feedback on rubric sections 1-4 of your Oral presentation,
titled "Developing Interactive Theatre for Infants:"

I. Core Elements

 Question/Goal: 3. Practitioner
 Process/Methodology: 2. Apprentice
 Findings/Results: 2. Apprentice
 Feedback: The concept of your study is fascinating! From the onset, you
draw a compelling argument: "Why are we not utilizing with children the
very modality in which they learn to explore and discover their world?"
(My quote, not yours - but certainly the question I believe many artists
across disciplines continue to ask.) You explained your methodology in
terms of the process the children went through in creating/performing the
play, but the research methodology was not clear to me in relation to the
design, which I believe you identified as "Arts-Based." You also
mentioned that the parents were "surveyed" after the performances, but
how were they surveyed? Did you have a formal questionnaire? Take
anecdotal notes? If the latter, how was the data analyzed?

II. Presentation Structure

 Flow and order of information: 3. Practitioner

 Text: 3. Practitioner
 Visual elements: 3. Practitioner
 Feedback: Giving a co-presentation is an art
in and of itself, but the two of
you were able to manage this dance very well! I found your visual
supports to be enhancing and supportive of the presentation.

III. Need For Project

 Background/Context: 2. Apprentice
 Quality of study or project design: 2. Apprentice
 Conclusions, outcomes and future directions: 2. Apprentice
 Feedback: As mentioned in my first comment, the "need" for this project is
probably obvious to most people engaged int he arts. For the overall
consumer, I suggest you contextualize this more. In other words, how
common is TVY, and other theatre that may be targeted for children?
What types of plays are been written for TVY and how does your work
compare to what is already out there. Framing your study in the context
of the existing literature will strengthen its need, purpose, and potential
impact.
IV. Knowledge of Project

 Literature from field: 2. Apprentice

 Expansion of visual aid: 3. Practitioner
 Ability to answer questions: 3. Practitioner
 Feedback: The Vygotsky reference was needful and very supportive to your
study. Again, I encourage you to contextualize your work within the
existing literature. The question you ask deserves to be answered by
society in general, and to a degree there is a level of accountability.
Theatre, in my opinion, should not be limited to the adult, but belongs to
children as well and highlights their primary mode of learning. Thank you
for your work!
