Using Studywiz - Accessing Studywiz Jan 08

1. Go to Studywiz at http://studywiz.plc.vic.edu.au/ and click on ENTER >

2. Log in by selecting “Log in as Teacher” and enter UserName and Password


User name = first three letters of surname, followed by initial eg turj [for J Turner]
Password = plcplc [can change it under SETTINGS]

3. Home Screen is pre-set with


Latest eBulletins Latest Resources
Calendar Latest Message

4. You can see your Subjects by selecting RESOURCES > My Subjects


- You can check, delete and edit resources here
5. You can see or create Messages by using TOOLS > Messages
6. You can click on Home to go home at any time

[Publishing on Studywiz] – adding files Home Screen


1. Click on RESOURCES and choose class from drop-down list

2. Either create a folder using , and/or select from folder list


- you need to select a folder to go to resource choice

3. Select type of resource from table [for adding files choose File] 

4. Complete the following


a. click in Global Edit Box [so that next year’s teacher can have
access]
b. Make sure Publish box is ticked
[so that it is ‘published onto Studywiz]
c. Set To: date to 1 January of next year
[so that the file is not published in next year’s
material until you want it to]
d. Include a title
[short, relevant, as part of a file system]
e. Include a short description
f. Include a file description
[what the file is about]
g. Click on upload button
h. Select a file to load by using Browse..button

i. Use Save to complete Upload


j. The click on Apply [A ticked SAVED box should appear in top-left
corner]
k. Then click on BACK button to finish

* note the style menu that is available on some Browsers

5. When students for that class log in they will be able to see the resource under “Latest Resources”
- you can check file has been ‘published’ by logging on as a plcstudent [plc246]
- this is also be used as a back-up
An alternative way of adding resources is:
1. In HOME window choose Resources button, then My Subjects tab
2. Either add a sub-folder using button, or navigate to required sub-folder using links
3. Use Create Resources button located at bottom-left of right-window
(can toggle back to View Resources)

Publishing on Studywiz – eBulletins

eBulletins are used to convey messages to classes

1. Click on RESOURCES and choose class from drop-down list

2. Either create a folder using , and/or select from folder list


3. Select type of resource from table
[for adding files choose eBulletin]

4. Complete the following


a. click in Global Edit box
b. Make sure Publish box is ticked
[so that it is ‘published onto Studywiz]
c. Set To: date to 1 January of next year
d. Include a title
e. Include a short description
f. Include an eBulletin Message
g. Click on Save button
h. Click on BACK if you need to return to resources

Studywiz Discussions

Class discussions can be held

1. Click on RESOURCES and choose class from drop-down list


2. Either create a folder using , and/or select from folder list
3. Select type of resource from table
[for adding files choose Discussion]

4. Complete the following


a. click in Global Edit box
b. Make sure Publish box is ticked
[so that it is ‘published onto Studywiz]
c. Set To: date to 1 January of next year
d. Include an Subject title
e. Include a Starting discussion message in the Body
f. Click on Save button
g. Click on BACK if you need to return to resources

• A teacher or student can access the discussion from the Latest Resources or Discussion lists in HOME

• Discussions can view in several forms [ie Flat List, Threaded List]
• Use Reply to respond
• The originator can also edit

Publishing on Studywiz - Assignments

This process is similar for loading files but allows students to submit work as files that teachers can access through the Internet

[for adding files choose Assignment]

4. Complete the following


a. click in Global Edit box
b. Make sure Publish box is ticked
[so that it is ‘published onto Studywiz]
c. Set To: date to 1 January of next year
d. Include an Assignment title
e. Include a short description
f. To include a file click on upload button
h. Select a file to load by using Browse..button
and then Upload
i. Set a Due Date [wont accept submissions after this]
g. Click on Save button, then BACK or HOME button

5. A teacher can check the assignments by clicking on the 6. A student submits their assignment by

Using the Studywiz Calendar

The Calendar is used to keep track of upcoming events or work due.

1. Click on the add event button

2. Complete the following


a. click in Allow Global Edit box
b. Set date and times
c. Include an event title
d. Include an Event description
e. Click on Save button
f. Click on BACK if you need to return to resources

• NOTE: You can use Use Resources button to add Calendars for
particular classes.

• Students can also use Add Event to add their own event reminders

Using Studywiz Messages

Messages is used to send a message to an individual student or group of students.

1. Click on the TOOLS button and choose MESSAGES button

2. Use the Create New Message button


to access recipient tableComplete the following

3. Use the ‘Select a Class or Group’ drop-menu to select class / students

4. Select student and use Add button to select recipent


(or Remove button to remove)

5. a. Include a title
b. Write the message in the Messagebox.
c. include any attachments if required
d. click in ‘Save Copy in Sent Folder’ if copy to be kept (recommended)
- you can use ‘Save Draft’ if you want to save work in progress.
e. Click on SEND button when message is ready for sending.
f. Click on BACK if you need to return to resources

Other Studywiz Resources

• Multi-Content resources - can be used for combining resource types such as for multiple submissions
• Test - can be used to create a test bank, but limited question types
• Vote - each student gets to vote once,
• Group Writing - for students to share their writings
• Game - can create tasks around games [if you have the time]
• Gallery - like group writing but for pictures [can also podcast]
• RSS Feed - to set up streaming links to RSS sites [need to URL]
• Chat - for real-time on-line chat within a controlled environment

Studywiz - Using the Subjects Directory

Used for accessing previously created material

1. Click on RESOURCES and My Subjects


Your subjects will be listed

2. Click on or subject title link to open folders for that subject

3. Keep selecting until at bottom level when files will be shown

You can use Export Resource to add to your eLocker
You can use Edit Resource to delete

• eLocker memory is limited so should only use with working files and delete when not longer active
