Berlin blockade and airlift (June 1948)
● People of berlin did not want to be on
the communist so they went over to
west Berlin.
● East German authorities did not like
they idea so they decided to build a
wall.
● The U.S. would drop supplies for the
people of West Berlin.
Korean war (June 1950)
● North vs. South Korea.
● North Korea wanted communism while south was
leaning toward democracy .

● The U.S. of course got involved and

helped south korea.
● The soviets were with North Korea
supplying them with tanks and other
weapons of mass destruction.
● We lost the war.
Space race (October 1957)
The Soviets vs. The U.S. racing to who could build advanced technology in space.
President John F. Kennedy thought of making high tech space weapons but didn't
succeed

● Soviets were the first to orbit

the earth
● U.S. was the first to land a man
on the moon.
U-2 Reconnaissance Plane (May 1960)
Also known as the ‘’Dragon Lady’’ The spy plane as used to spy on the Soviet
Union. But the soviets had shot it down making the U.S. embarrassed about the
whole situation.
Bay of Pigs (April 1961)
● U.S. tried invading cuba to
overthrow Castro's
dictatorship.
● They failed to overthrow his
dictatorship.
● People were upset and
disappointed that they lost to
someone weaker than the U.S.
President Reagan visits the wall (August 1961)
● Ronald Reagan visited West Berlin to give a speech challenging soviet leader
Mikhail Gorbachev to knock down the wall.
● Gorbachev threatened president reagan about him coming to berlin
● This lead to the Strategic Arms Limitations
Cuban missile crisis (October 1962)
● Cuba slo waned nuclear missiles to protect
themselves
● Russia supplied them with missles
● The U.S. did not like it because cuba is very
close to florida so it will hit florida if anything
does happen.
Strategic Arms Limitations (November 1969)
● The two superpowers U.S. and the Soviet Union
have a conference about the number of weapons
made.

● Both superpowers agreed to limit their weapons they

have and that are being made.
● Called SALT 1. Later make other treaties/
Soviets invade Afghanistan (December 1979)
● Soviets wanted to spread their influence
across asia
● The country also wanted to get more support
other than military support

● They ended up losing the war and

returned back to their country
Germany is reunited (November 1989)
● First separated after WWll.
● It was divided into 4 different zones.
● East Germany started losing power.

● People were leaving the east and going

to the west.
● This also lead to how the Berlin Wall was
destroyed in 1989.
