Part I. Situation
In education, books are always part of the students’ academic learning process.
Textbooks are produced according to the academic demands of educational institutions. Now
that the Philippines has adopted the K to 12 program last 2014 many teachers have struggles
to give quality education to their students. Since then, there are still no sufficient teachers,
classrooms, facilities and equipment and other instructional and teaching materials (Basilio,
2017).
With the new curriculum added to the education system, a lot of changes and needs
are needed to be met. The increase in number of classrooms, teachers and publication of new
textbooks are badly needed to meet the standards set by the Department of Education. For the
past three years since the K to 12 programs has been approved the needs are still not properly
given. But nowadays, it is different since the addition of new curriculum thus additional
books must be given to meet the needs of the students in their learning.
Books are essential material for every student. These books help students to have
advantage among their classmates in certain aspect of education. But is it effective if most of
the students don’t have issuance to the books that they are needed?
This study aims to address the problem on the lack of reference materials or books for
the new curriculum, called K to 12 Program, set by the Department of Education. This study
is limited within the senior high school students of Salay National High School.
