C911 Vibration Analyzer

Balancing

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Vibration measurement and balancing involves
measurement on rotating machines. Always keep a safe
distance to rotating parts and secure transducers and transducer cables
from rotating parts.
Balancing involves mounting of trial and balancing weights on the
rotor. Always secure the start switch with a locker and also use the
emergency switch for double safety before working with the rotor.
This is especially important when the machine is remote controlled.
NPP KOHTECT cannot take responsibility for any accidents on people
and machines.
Heed all warnings and recommendations to prevent data loss, data
inaccuracy, damage to the instrument, or injury to yourself!
Options at program start.
There are options to start
balancing task:
New task – start the new one-
plane or two-plane balancing
work from scratch.

Resume – continue interrupted

balancing work.

Open file – open saved balancing data file

to view result or to use response matrix.
The response matrix is normalized
unbalance sensitivity of a machine and can
be used to calculate a new balancing weight
next time the same machine has to be
balanced without need of trial runs with
trial weights.
When Open file option is chosen -
device goes to the file browser. User

can select the file and press key to

open it. When the file is open there are
options to
- Use Response Matrix – in that case
device can calculate correction
weights after a single vibration
measurement, even on running machine
without stopping it.
- Discard Response Matrix – Response matrix discarded. Start new
balancing work with machine settings restored (RPM, options,
etc.).
- Data View – open file just to view the balancing work runs
summary list.
Balancing in one plane
One-Plane Balancing Procedure Overview

 Run 0 - the initial vibration (unbalance) measurement

 Run 1 – vibration measurement with trial weight attached in plane
A
 Stop the machine, attach calculated correction weight at the
specified angle on balance planes A.
 Trim run 1… – Start the machine and measure residual vibration
level. Once measurement stopped device will calculate trim weight,
to further reduce the vibration. If residual vibration is higher than
target value – attach trim weight and perform another trim run.
Repeat trim runs until required vibration level is achieved.

Move cursor to Balancing in the main

menu of C911 and press or

key.
Once New task was chosen, move

cursor to 1 Plane and press or

key.

Balancing work settings menu allows checking or

changing parameters
1:RPM = NNNN - expected balancing RPM of the
machine. RPM must be entered prior to start
measurements. To change RPM – press then
enter RPM and confirm by key.

If actual RPM and balancing RPM differs by

more than 5% device will display error
message while measurement is in progress
2:Options - Normally the correction mode is set to
Add and Free, i.e. the weight can have any mass and
be placed at any angular position.

3:Machine setup – this menu intended to setup machine configuration.

A machine configuration should be set up if C911 is required to
recommend a trial weight before the trial run, and if the residual
unbalance and balancing quality should be calculated.
This service function not implemented yet, so just ignore this menu.
For assessing balancing quality please use residual vibration level.

The initial imbalance measurement (Run 0)

Once balancing parameters are checked press

key.
Make sure that accelerometer and optical sensor
are installed properly. Accelerometer must be
connected to channel 1.

Once measurement stopped, switch the machine off.

You can leave the balancing weight on the rotor or

remove it. Answer the question with YES or NO.
Device will calculate the balancing weight and fixing

The balancing procedure is complete as soon as
the vibration values have reached an acceptable
value. So in this example vibration level after
attaching the balancing weight is 0.217mm/s – if
this value is acceptable there is no need to attach
the trim weight (0.0825g at 107°)
Press key to proceed. The balancing runs
summary list will be displayed.
The following data are listed:
- Run number – 0, 1, 2, … and plane – A, B
- Attached weight and fixing angle
- Vibration level
Shaded run number/plane means that weight has
been removed.

If several weights have already been placed on the

rotor, user may wish to remove all this weights and
replace them with a single combined weight. C911
adds weights of the completed balancing runs and
displays the resulting weight and fixing angle in the
list.
To Combine weights - press key.
The newly calculated balancing weight appears in the list in the line
with shaded colon and word SUM. All combined weights will be
marked as removed.

weights, to further reduce the vibration. If residual vibration is
higher than target value – attach trim weights and perform another
trim run. Repeat trim runs until required vibration level is reached.
