Commitment to the Profession

Comments:
- Excellent as always. Confirmed by her MST. 😊

Planning for Learning

Comments:
- Lesson plan is of good standard. Very few spelling errors were detected.
- This time, extra activities have been planned for students who will finish first. Mariam does a good job
explaining these extra activities. 😊😊

Managing Learning
Comments:
- Mariam begins with reminders about the rules: she does this REALLY well and her interventions are
very effective.
- Mariam has gained tremendous confidence since the last two observations!!! This was very, very
apparent today!!! 😊😊😊
- She instils a very structured but positive atmosphere from the start of the lesson.
- Mariam often repeats “listen to the teacher”.
- Mariam STOPS and addresses behavioural issues whenever it’s necessary. Excellent progress made
here!! 😊
- Mariam effectively uses her voice (tone) and body language and the ‘circle system’ to manage the
students’ behaviour and to keep their attention. Mariam has made great progress in this area as
well!! 😊
- “Who is sitting quietly and nicely?” asks Mariam – several times during carpet time
- Mariam effectively manages the transition from the carpet to desk area
- Mariam uses the lights (shutting the lights) and other ‘repetition strategies’ to effectively prompt
transition time and to get the students to move from the desk area to the carpet
Once more, there has been significant progress in this area 😊
- Mariam is now fully confident with the class; and she has full control of the entire cohort – and this,
during the entire lesson 😊
- Mariam revisits the circles (management system), as promised, at the end of the lesson
- Mariam – again- reminds Ss about behavioural expectations before they stand to go and wash their
hands. Very well managed!

Implementing Learning
Comments:
- Mariam says: “Let’s sing the song of sounds together!”. She selects 2 students to mimic the
movements. Mariam does a great job singing the lyrics and encouraging students to participate. All
students participate very actively and enthusiastically! Well done.
- Then, Mariam introduces the letter ‘M’ and uses flashcards to solicit ‘M words’. Very effective.
- Mariam gives instructions for the centre activities. She:
. gives clear explanations whilst questioning students
. uses the worksheets to explain requirements
. gives many examples and counter-examples
- All students are VERY attentive during the instructions: once more, there is HUGE progress here! This
reflects Mariam’s progress in the area of classroom management, as well as her increasing ease in
interacting with students.
- Differentiated resources seem to offer the appropriate level of challenge for each group 😊
- Worksheet given to the blue table (with pictures to color) is missing something: the letter ‘M’ should
appear somewhere on the worksheet – no?
- Mariam kept an eye on ALL groups during center time (as per feedback given to her in Observation 2)
- CLOSING: Mariam presents highlights of student work.
Mariam has already explained why she doesn’t want the Ss to present their work (she has a good
justification for this) …. But a few quick questions should be asked for the sake of making students
participate in the closing, for the sake of doing a summary/review of the lesson (eg. “give me some
examples of words that begin with M”).

Assessment
Comments:
- Mariam has a good pulse on each student’s level

Reflection on Practice
Comments:

Please beware of grammar errors. For example:

-“When the teacher’s talking, what you have to do?” (should be “…what do you have to do?”)
- If you want your circle be complete, what you have to do? (should be “…what do you have to do?”)
- If one of your group doing something wrong ….. (should be “if one person in your group is doing something
wrong …”)
