Part I
1.) What is your key learning about child abuse?
 There are a lot of ways that a child experiences an abuse. Generally when
we speak of child abuse the first thing that comes into our mind is physical
abuse but in reality it is more than a physical abuse. There are 3 categories
of child abuse: Physical abuse, Sexual abuse and Physical neglect. When a
child experiences an abuse it will affect them for their whole lives
specifically in their mental state. They might even be an abuser themselves
when they grow old because of the abuse they experienced as a child or
they might develop a trauma to certain situation or things that they do not
have prior to the abuse.
.
2.) What is the Child Sexual Abuse Accommodation Syndrome?
 Dr. Roland Summit formulated this model to view the child’s way of
coping to abuse and how each child reacts to it. There are 5 categories to
this syndrome: Secrecy, Helplessness, Entrapment and Accommodation,
Delayed, Conflicted and Unconvincing Disclosure, and Retraction

3.) List 5 Research on doctrines/defenses/theories in rape cases decided by the

Supreme Court.
 Maria Clara Doctrine - This doctrine states that a woman will not testify
that she had been raped it did not actually happen. The victim’s testimony
is already sufficient.
 Sweetheart Defense – In this doctrine it states that an accused cannot rape
their victim because they are sweethearts. This doctrine must be proven by
the fact that the accused and the victim are lovers and that she consented
to the sexual act.
 Failure of the victim to report the rape does not tantamount to consent.
The victim would rather bear the pain than tell the shameful act to other
people. ( People vs. Mahinay)
 When there is threat, intimidation or fear there is no need to establish
physical resistance in the case of rape. ( People vs. Palgan)
 Testimonies of child victims are normally given full weight and credit (
People vs. Araojo)
4.) Discuss briefly the battered woman syndrome.
 It is the after effects that a woman experienced after an abuse which can
affect their psychological condition and even their emotional state which
is evident in a pattern of behaviors. The woman may even develop a
depression because they feel like they are helpless and they can’t leave
their partner because of fear of their safety. There are 4 stages in a
Battered Woman Syndrome: Denial, Guilt, Enlightenment, and
Responsibility.

5.) Enumerate the signs of lying.

 Shaking
 Dryness of mouth
 Licking of lips
 Increased heartbeat
 Faster pulse
 Perspiration
 Flushing of face

PART II

 No child shall experience an abuse and no person shall experience rape or domestic
violence. In these situations the effect to the victim is long lasting and it will affect their
future and basically their whole lives. As a student I would volunteer in those centers that
cater the victims of child abuse, rape and domestic violence and I would let them know
that there are people who are willing to listen to their stories and to help them rebuild
their future. We should also raise awareness so that these victims would not feel like the
whole world is against them and they are alone in fighting this war.
