The concepts are made along the lines of redesigning the

outfit of lady priests, or Sadhvis. The outfits are kept simple,

keeping in mind the decorum of the client. Drapes are
included in all the concepts, as most of the traditional Indian
clothing revolves heavily around draping. The concepts are
made by keeping in mind the comfort, practicality, and
durability of the garments.

Concept One

The main aim of the concept is to provide comfort, and at the same
time to maintain the essence of the appearance of the wearer. It
consists of two major parts of the outfit – the main garment, a loose
fitting single piece and a drape that comes over the main garment.
The main garment is a long continuous garment inspired by the
‘Angarkha’. It has loose long sleeves and has pleats starting from the
waist, arranged at the side. The pleats are inspired by a ‘Saree’, but
are shifted to the side. The piece can be made out of cotton, linen or
any breathable light fabric. It has a simple round neck and has three
loops on the left and a single loop on the bottom right side of the
torso, to fasten the buttons of the drape. The piece is white in
colour. The drape is inspired by the ‘Pallu’ of a saree. It is saffron in
colour. It has a free flap attached at the shoulder part, which is to be
brought down over the torso, and to be fitted in the loop of the main
garment. There is an armhole on the other side of the drape through
which the other arm would be passed. After this, the free ends of the
drape would be tied into a knot at the right side, a little above the
waist. The shoes are inspired from typical ‘Jodhpuri shoes and ‘Ballet
flats’. The look is complimented by ‘Rudraksh jewellery.’

Concept Two

The piece consists of mainly three components – the shirt, the dhoti
pants and the drapes. The shirt has a simple round neck and plackets
on the front. It is half sleeve, white in colour, with a saffron strip at
the edge. It is made of cotton, linen or any light breathable fabric.
The inspiration for the shirt is a ‘Saree blouse’ and a ‘Shirt’. After it
come the white dhoti pants. Also of breathable fabric, it is inspired
by dhoti, ‘Kashta saree of Maharashtra’ and ‘Patiala pants of
Punjab’. It is secured around the waist by a traditional cotton chord,
like a pajama, as Spandex or any other elastic material loses is
elasticity over time. The end of the pant, however, have gathered
cloth and spandex, to avoid the voluminous fabric from obstructing
walking/tripping over. The drape is of two parts. The saffron drape
over the shoulder is a simple semicircle draped around the shoulders
and fastened with a brooch on either side. The inspiration from this
is the ‘Pallu’ of a saree. The second drape around the waist is
inspired from the ‘Nau vari(nine yards) saree of Maharashtra’ It is
pre pleated for aesthetic effect and tied around the waist by buttons.
The shoes are inspired by ‘Kolhapuri Chappals’. They have the typical
leather braids.
Concept Three

The garment consists of three main parts – the top, the skirt and the
drape. The white top is inspired by a ‘Jodhpuri bandhgala’. It is of a
breathable fabric like cotton or linen, has a stand collar, and buttons
at the front .It is full sleeved and its length reaches up to the knees.
Then comes the saffron skirt, also of cotton, inspired from a
‘Ghagra’. Its volume is increased by panelling. The drape, also saffron
in colour, is inspired by the ‘Kashmiri Shawl’. It is a rectangular piece
of cloth draped around the shoulders. The shoes are made out of
‘Bamboo weaving’, a traditional handicraft of India. It is breathable
and sustainable and pocket friendly.
