Brief instructions Gliffy is a web 2.0 collaboration tool where students and/or teachers are

to the website, students and/or teachers are able to sign up for a free
trial using an email address. After signing up, it directs you to the
“creating a diagram” page. Students and teachers are able to choose
from a variety of different diagrams such as a flow chart, for example.
The tool gives students and teachers access to different shapes, arrows,
etc to create the perfect diagram. There are different diagram themes
and a variety of creation buttons that can help students and teachers
connect their diagrams, add text, use straight lines, zoom in and out,
etc. The students and teachers can save their work using the “save”
button or they can share their work using the “share” button. They may
also add people to Gliffy by entering their email addresses so that they
can also edit the diagram.

tool can be used 1. Students can brainstorm using this tool. For example, students in
in PK-12 third grade could go to this site and use the “mind mapping”
diagram to brainstorm ideas that they have for a paper they are
going to write in English. This would make it a lot more fun
instead of jotting down ideas on paper.
2. Since diagrams and webs are used so much in elementary school,
this tool can help perfect diagrams and make it more fun for
students. Students, in fourth grade for example, can pick themes
when creating their diagrams, pick what shape they want to use,
and make it as big or as mall as they choose.
3. Students could share ideas using this tool. A student in fifth grade
could create a diagram on the steps of the scientific method, for
example, and then share these notes with classmates.
Ideas for Middle/High School:
1. This tool can be used during group projects that are often
assigned in middle and high school. For example, partners could
work on a diagram for a science project. The diagram could show
step by step how they created their project, for a 7th grade
science fair project. This tool would allow them to edit on the
same diagram.
2. Students could add their teachers to make comments on their
diagram that they are creating for class before submitting it. On
the tool, the “comment” button makes it convenient for teachers
to add remarks regarding a diagram.
3. Students could peer edit using this tool. If a student is using a
diagram to jot down ideas for a final paper, a classmate could be
added to make remarks regarding which ideas they feel would

benefit or not benefit their paper.
Positives and Positives of Gliffy:
challenges of 1. Gliffy makes it very convenient for students and teachers to

people. The tools on Gliffy helps the diagrams look neat,
organized, and accurate according to size.
2. The variety is wonderful on this tool. Gliffy has so many different
types of diagrams that the student or teacher can create. The
diagrams include basic diagram, mind mapping, network
diagram, organizing chart, and many others.
3. It is simple for students and teachers to add other members to
their team. The only step is for the user to add the email
addresses of the people they want to edit their diagram. This
makes teamwork manageable.
4. The tool allows students and teachers to save their diagram on
the site. If a student or teacher is not finished, they can resume
at a later time with the “save” feature.
Negatives of Gliffy:
1. One of the main concerns of this tool is that it may be time
consuming when the tool is being used. Getting used to dragging
the shape to the diagram, adding texts, and making the size
accurate may be challenging for some users. Students in
elementary school may need assistance when using this tool.
2. Another negative is that it also may be more difficult for some
students, even teachers, to understand. Since there is many
creating buttons, shapes, etc it may make it more challenging for
some users. People who are not tech savvy may get a little
frustrated.
3. The last negative is that it may get confusing the more people
you have on your team editing your diagram. The more people
you have may cause some chaos. For example, if you have 10
people editing one diagram, there is a chance the diagram could
become sloppy.

Brief instructions Prezi is an online web 2.0 tool for teachers and students to create
of how to use the realistic presentations. Prezi is an upgrade from using standard power
tool point on Microsoft. This tool is used to present ideas in a way that is
organized and unique. Students and teachers are able to pick from a
variety of themes on Prezi as to how they want their presentation to
look. After picking a theme, the students and teachers can add text,
pictures, animations, and videos to their presentation. Prezi is a free tool
but a membership is offered. If students or teachers decided to take the
membership offer, they will be granted full access to all of the themes,
animations, etc that is available on Prezi.

food chain come alive.
Ideas for Middle School:
1. Students in middle school could create a mind map on Prezi to
present their thinking processes. Student could use Prezi to

review SOL topics in preparation for the test.
Ideas for High School:
1. Prezi could be used in group projects in this age group. Students
could be grouped into groups of two to three to create a
presentation. For example, students could be asked in English
class to make a Prezi presentation on a character in a book that
they are reading.
Positives and Positives of Prezi:
challenges of 1. Prezi gives many more options compared to other presentation
using the tool sources online, such as Power Point in Microsoft. There are many
themes, animation tools, and creation buttons to make the
presentation come alive.
2. Prezi is easy to navigate and to access by students and teachers.
3. Prezi holds viewers’ attention and captures their eye with the
different navigation features.
4. Students and teachers can save their presentations and then
come back to it at a later time to edit or complete it.
Negatives of Prezi:
1. This tool may be harder for younger students to use. The
navigation is not as easy for elementary school-aged students.
2. There are some limitations when it comes to the themes,
animations, etc when a membership is not purchased.
3. There may be too much movement/navigations during the
presentation that may cause discomfort to some viewers.

Brief instructions To begin with, google slides makes it a simple task for students to work
of how to use the on collaboration assignments. There are a variety of features that
tool students can choose from when creating a presentation which include
book reports, field trips, flash cards, science projects, and photo albums.
The only item that is needed is a school email address and access is
immediately granted. Once a student is logged in, he/she simply presses
the new + button on the left hand side of the home page. The student
then can start creating their presentation. There is a share button
located on the right hand side for students to share their work. Once the
presentation is shareable, students or teachers have the option to edit or
comment on the work of the presentation.

their work and then they can come back to it later to finish it.
Ideas for Middle School:
1. In middle school, students could create an interactive quiz to give
to each other when studying for a test. Once a student has
created a quiz, they can share it using the “share button” and
have another student answer the questions.
2. Students could also make flash cards using the “flash card”
feature to study for an upcoming test.
Ideas for High School:
1. Students could create a game at the end of the year of what they
have learned.

challenges of 1. Google slides is user friendly for students and teachers when
using the tool creating presentations.
2. It saves the students’ work automatically and the work can be
resumed at a later date.
3. It makes collaboration easy when working in group projects.
Students can share their work and add comments and edit on the
same presentation.
4. There is variety on google slides such as being able to make book
reports, photo albums, flash cards, etc.
Negatives of Google Slides:
1. The format isn’t as polished as some of the other programs that
are available for power points.
2. It may be time consuming when using.
3. The layouts and themes of the presentations are limited.
