Katy and her boyfriend Tom play pop music with their best friends in a band called Steel

City. Katy is a
pianist and a guitarist. Aruna is the singer and bassist and Danny is the drummer. They do concerts in
different pubs, but their dream is to play for a large crowd. After playing, the band rests in a room at the
back of the pub. Suddenly, Tom turns on the radio to find out which bands have been chosen for the
"Battle of the Bands". The casset of the band has been sent to the radio. All the members of the band
listen to the nervous radio. And when they heard their name, they jump to celebrate. Katy accidentally
hits Tom's guitar and breaks it . Now she need to get money for a new one!
Katy borrows money from her sister Rachel, who initially did not want to but then yes. Katy can not ask
her parents for money because they are not happy with her. Katy and Tom are going to buy the new
guitar. He likes many guitars but he can not buy them because they are so expensive. The owner brings an
old guitar. The moment Tom hold the guitar, his face changes completely. He has a very strange smile but
looks like a pop star. Back home, Kate feels strange. She remembers Tom's strange face and writes a sad
song. She feels a little uncomfortable but can not find why. The band meets to practice for the
competition
Tom arrives unusually late and acts very weird. He plays better than ever with a cold smile and is
grumpy with his bandmates. He tells them that their performances are frightening and makes them
practice for hours and hours. While Tom takes Katy to his house, he continues to act strangely and she
begins to wonder what he has behaved so strangely since he picked up the guitar. Katy is worried about
Tom going to visit him because he has not heard from him during the days. Tom's mother says that he has
been acting strangely and that he had to make him go to work. He has not done anything but touch the
guitar. When Katy enters Tom's room, she feels that the guitar has something strange. She goes back to
the guitar shop to find out more about this. They tell him that Mrs. Carter gave him the guitar for very
little money and that he said he brought "bad luck". Those words echoed in her mind, Katy asked about
the woman's address and went to that house. As soon as she said the guitar, Linda Carter's face turns
white. Katy learns that the guitar belonged to David Ryan, a young man who used to play at the Golden
Circle along with Phil Carter, Linda's current husband. David was obsessed with being a star and winning
the Band Competition in the 1980s. He died in a car accident but his guitar remained intact. Linda and
Phil stayed with the guitar, but strange things started to happen and Linda decided to sell it. Katy tells the
whole story to Rachel and asks for help. Both go to the band's rehearsal and begin to examine Tom's
behavior.
Katy and her sister Rachel realize that Tom is being guided by the ghost of the guitar, David Ryan's.
Rachel takes Katy to the local library. They look for the newspaper from the day following the battle of
the bands in the eighties. They discover that the band of David Ryan reached the final but they did not
win. However, the most surprising discovery is that David and Tom look exactly alike. They fear that
David's ghost wants to relive his own story and make Tom die. They need to avoid repeating the story to
save Tom. The band has to win so that Tom does not die in the car accident. The great night arrives. The
arena is full of people and the bands begin to play. They play many bands but they all make mistakes. It
seems there is a good chance that Steel City will win. The judges can not decide between two bands, Steel
City and The Passengers, so the two bands have to play again. But then Rachel arrives with bad news.
She discovered that David Ryan's band won the competition in 1980, and suddenly, Katy has to prevent
Tom from winning. Rachel runs to the stage and breaks Tom's guitar. David Ryan leaves Tom's body and
Tom returns to normal. The final twist in the story is that Rachel, who only liked classical music, has
found the whole episode so exciting that she now listens to pop music in secret.
