1.

The centre most part of our jaali design has been inspired from the combination of two different elements…,

One is a nature’s creation – THE SPIDER WEB and the other is a Geometrical shape – CIRCLE .

2. Surrounding the spider web,

is a design that has been evolved from the PETALS OF A FLOWER..,

overlapped and rotated along its centre .

3. Convergence of triangles and circles gave a star shaped pattern that is symmetrically scattered around the
central floral design.

All these elements have been enclosed within an outline which resembles a fusion of multi-foil arch and
floral edges.
The arch border in-between has been incorporated to indicate the significance of arches in ISLAMIC
architecture.
4. The outermost design is obtained by overlapping and repetition of the hexagons and circles through which
the flowers and stars have been derived.
 What is a JAALI ?
A jali or jaali, is the term for a perforated stone or
latticed screen, usually with an ornamental pattern
constructed through the use of calligraphy and
geometry. This form of architectural decoration is
common in Hindu temple architecture, Indo-Islamic
Architecture and more generally in Islamic
Architecture.

 PURPOSE OF A JAALI…
A jaali lets in adequate natural light and ventilation .These jaalis
help in lowering the temperature by compressing the air through the holes. Also
when the air passes through these openings, its velocity increases giving
profound diffusion. It
contributes to environmentally conscious
design, letting in breeze and filtered sunlight without the direct
heat and glare, a passive solar element. This traditionally used
element is artistic and fosters environmental sustainability.

 EVOLUTION OF JAALI…
Though jali (from Sanskrit ‘Jala‘ and ‘Jalaka‘) has been described in
ancient Indian architectural texts, it owes its growth and
development, to this magnificent scale and stature, to the Mughals
and it belongs to the 16th and 17th century stone-art of India. It is
an essential element of Mughal Architecture.
