We will measure the students' ability to write a haiku. This will be assessed by the
students' ability to present their haiku to the class.
SWBAT: Explore different aspects of love by correctly putting together an original haiku.
We will open up our lesson by asking students to join a ‘PollEverywhere’ that poses
the question “What comes to mind when you hear the word love”?

Students will read their haiku devoted to love aloud to the class. They will be engaged in this activity because they are
practicing expressing personal emotions with their peers. This also correlates to proper public speaking mannerisms and
giving respectful feedback.

What is a Haiku?
Haiku: A Japanese type of poetry that can be written on many themes but
consists of only 3 lines and a total of 17 syllables.
Formatting of a Haiku:
Line 1: 5 syllables
Line 2: 7 syllables
Line 3: 5 syllables
