Assignment Title: End of unit Chaucer

Student Writing Goal: To obtain an 80% or higher on my overall score and improve on my grammatical errors and
construct a well written essay without the guidance of an outline.

What was the purpose of this writing assignment?

In this essay, my purpose of writing was to find the mean behind Chaucer’s story. There were three
morals/lessons mentioned throughout and my goal was to elaborate on one of them and provide in-text
citations. The center topic of my paper was to elaborate on the theme of “Honor”. Chaucer had many
examples of honor and I chose a few examples to use as resources for my theme.

How did you perform in relation to the expectations of the writing rubric?
When I write my essay, I always forget how to set my papers using mla format, I can improve on. I stayed on
topic throughout the whole paper and used in-text resources as well as elaborated on my main topics. I can
also focus on using stronger words to describe throughout my essay, better suited for my age and reading
level. The notes on my essay also suggest that I should stay on topic throughout the essay and continue to
restate it.

What aspect of this piece did you do well? (give example/quotes to support claims)
“His tale, “The Unknown Bride” references the time back when King Arthur ruled, Knights were held up to
their word and women were treated equally.” I provided sources directly from Chaucer’s tale and explained
my point of the view on the story. The themes I looked over throughout his story were love and honor.

Why have you/haven’t you chosen to revise this writing assignment?

Although this was an end of unit essay I never thought to look back and revise it. Even though I turned in the
works cited along with the essay, I was still 5% under my writing goal. In the future, I should come back and
revise, so I know what mistakes I’ve made to prepare myself for the future when I have another writing
assignment. Revising and editing could better myself when I have my difficult writing tasks to complete.
What will you do better in your next writing assignment, and how will I do it?
In my next writing assignment, I will remind myself to restate my theme, so I don’t stray away from it. I do a
good job at providing resources to support my theme, but readers could easily forget about the main topic
surrounding my essay. In the future I will remember to study mla format as well as stick to the theme of the
assignment.

To what degree of success did you achieve your previously stated goal(s)?
I improved on all of my grammatical and conventional errors. This time around, I submitted my essay along
with the works cited correctly and I earned the points I’ve been missing. I was under 5% of my overall
writing goal and now I plan on working on my mla format and works cited for future references. There were
fewer mistakes on my paper and on my next assignment I will be sure to proof read for any hidden mistakes.
