Once class has begun, the teacher will start with a discussion on

When Gizmo is opened, the students will be instructed to


advance the year several times and watch what happens. Once
that is shown, they will be told to remove all of the deer and
then advance it several years and watch what happens. Then
they will click on the data tab, select Pictograph, then the tree,
and they will see what taking the deer away does to the
ecosystem. Once it has been thought about, the students will be
lead into answering two questions regarding what they just did.
Once the questions have been answered, the students will be
instructed to click choose organism and click the mushroom.
Once they have seen what has happened, they will be told to

answer the next two questions. The teacher will then tell the
students to stop and type something in the chat so that they can
let the teacher know that they have all reached that point.
The teacher will then ask the students if they have any questions
up to this point. Once that is covered, the teacher will tell the
students that they may now continue through the worksheet
through the next two simulations. The teacher will then instruct
the students that the third simulation will be homework and to
be completed outside of the class time. Once the students have
gone through the two simulations and answered the questions,
the teacher will lead them into a group discussion. This
discussion will have the students think critically about the
impacts of producers, consumers, and decomposers and their
impacts on the ecosystem in which they live in.
