Climate Change
“One thing has become fundamentally clear. That the world’s most poor
and under-privileged are the first to feel the devastating effects of climate
change.”, Leonardo DiCaprio exclaimed. This statement has imparted a vast
impact in my thought and senses. Moreover, I couldn’t help myself but to feel
contrite with the situation of my fellow Filipinos especially those families living
near poverty lines or so called laylayan ng lipunan.
The Philippines being a third world country cannot deny the fact that
majority of the indigent Filipino families are the front liner target of this man-
made crisis. On one hand, no one could ever contend that he or she is
blameless and innocent of this remorse phenomenon because every individual
is involved and affected in one way or another. On the other hand, I would
like to give emphasis on how the fewer advantaged individuals, concerning
major companies, capitalists, and entrepreneurs continuously dominate and
thrive on this extensive socio-environmental distress. These corporations can
be considered as pivotal catalysts of climate change as evidenced by largely
built plants, factories, and industrial units run by fuel, responsible for
greenhouse gas emissions. On the contrary, the sustainability revolution is
projected to be the number one win-win solution for it instigates beneficial
effects on prominent industries, the people and most importantly, on the
virtue of nature.
Truly, as I take an in-depth look of the current situation while watching
the videos, primarily in the country and broadly in a global aspect, I clearly
understand how bare the knowledge I had about climate change. I am
enthused with a thought that just because I am not explicitly experiencing the
drastic change of environment does not mean it isn’t happening at all. Hence,
the reality begins by the moment I opened my eyes and see the gradual
alteration of the nature’s breath-taking beauty into a catastrophic scene. The
fact that I perceived less vulnerable of climate change before was indeed
absurd. Whereas, I am more than grateful that steadfast advocates in persona
of Al Gore and Leonardo DiCaprio including Atom Araullo had awaken my inner
morality and humanity other than just my intellectuality. This collective effort
of upholding awareness is more than enough for me to start the change
personally. Climate change would seemingly be inevitable and radical unless
denial is your initial response but appreciation of its truth manifests power to
overcome adversity.
