Climate change is a very concerning matter occurring in our planet and if we don’t do

something about it we could doom our future. There are many causes of climate change such as

cows, food, and electricity but the three major causes are factories, landfills, and transportation.

Factories cause climate change because of all the smoke and gas they emit into the earth’s

atmosphere. Landfill cause climate change because the trash in landfills release methane which is

a greenhouse gas and that contributes to climate change. Transportation causes climate change

because cars and buses emit a lot of gas into the atmosphere. All these causes are the major

factors of climate change.

Factories are the biggest reason of climate change because of all the CO2 they emit. In

the article “These 100 Companies Are Responsible for Most of the World’s Carbon Emissions”

by Lucinda Shen it states “About 100 companies have been responsible for about 71% of the

world’s greenhouse gas emissions.” This shows how factories cause over 50% of greenhouse

gases over the entire planet and that is contributing to climate change. This is a significant factor

because of how it is the world’s leading source of climate change which is shown in the

statistics. We could prevent this by putting a limit on how much CO2 a company or factory can

emit. In the article “7 Ways to Reduce CO2 Emissions Pollution in Industry” by Marni Evans it

states “ These permits set an enforceable limit, or cap, on the amount of greenhouse gas pollution

that the company is allowed to emit. Over time, the limits become stricter, allowing less and less

pollution, until the ultimate reduction goal is met.” This shows that this method is very efficient

and it is a method that is not hard to accomplish if companies and factories just do what they are

told.
Landfills are places where you can dispose of trash and other waste materials and then

bury it and covering it up with soil. Landfills release methane which is 21 times more

powerful than carbon dioxide and that greenhouse gas is contributing to climate change.

In the article “How Your Trash Is Contributing to Climate Change” by Justin Worland it

states “methane emissions are 25 times more damaging to the environment, pound for

pound than carbon dioxide over a 100-year period.” This shows how powerful methane is

compared to carbon dioxide and landfills are the main source of methane right next to

cows and agriculture. We can prevent landfills by recycling and composting. In the

article “THE FIVE MOST EFFECTIVE WAYS TO REDUCE LANDFILL WASTE” it

states “While most landfills are too cool and dry to encourage biodegradable materials to

break down, compost piles are warm, moist, and aerated enough to do just that …

Recycling helps keep raw materials in circulation through several product life cycles.”

This shows how these methods are very efficient and effective according to these articles.

About 15 percent of manmade carbon dioxide comes from transportation vehicles.

Transportation vehicles such as planes, cars, buses, trucks, and other vehicles run on

fossil fuel which is the main contributor to pollution and climate change. In the article

“Vehicle Emissions’ it states “The principal emissions from motor vehicles are

greenhouse gases, which contribute to climate change … The vehicle's level of CO2

emissions is linked to the amount of fuel consumed and the type of fuel used.” This

shows why vehicles are emitting greenhouse gases which contribute to pollution and

climate change. We can reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation by

carpooling or using public transportation. In the article “Top 5 benefits of Carpooling it

states “ Carpooling cuts down on the number of cars and vehicle son the road. Fewer cars

mean there are less carbon and other gasses and pollution getting into the air. This

protects the environment by keeping the air, water, and land cleaner.” This shows how

efficient this method is and how it truly does prevent transportation pollution which helps

stop climate change.

There are many causes of climate change such as cows, food, and electricity but the

three major causes are factories, landfills, and transportation. All of these factors have

the biggest impact on climate change as explained in the essay. There are also many ways

we can prevent these causes as explained in the essay as well. Climate change is

important to study because of how much it affects us already and how badly it could

affect us in the future so we need to be prepared. All these causes are the major factors of

climate change.
